Had meal here on recommendations by hotel. Food was ok but atmosphere was a bit impersonal, felt we had intruded on a private party, seemed to be the place to go if you knew the staff But maybe that was us, would go again but maybe later, or at the weekend

We went on Friday 22nd July at 8pm. We got sat a little late, but that was no issue as we sat outside and had a couple of cocktails before our meal. I had Mackeral Pate to start and Smoled Salmon for main and it was amazing. Beautifully presented and a good amount of food too - I couldn't finish... More

This was a chance meeting as we were forced of the Chester wall due to renovations what a fabulous find. Ice cold Estrella, water on the table without asking, a short fresh menu with great specials as well. We had chicken Caesar salad and baked French cheese with meats and bread and shared them both. Delicious Caesar salad with fresh... More

It's taken me 60yrs + to understand why people rave over brisket and oh my, is this restaurant's brisket good. Not as good though as the ceaser salad...or is it? (Hence the naff title of this review which for the young, is also a song from days of yore). Seriously, it's a bit of hike for us to get to... More

Sometimes it is difficult to give a balanced review especially if lunch had been particularly good and perhaps this was the case here. Recommended by my husband's workmate who lives locally was the main reason we booked to eat here. Very cramped tables for 2 with a small menu choice. A strange specials option of only a starter and dessert... More

Went recently, for my girlfriends birthday, after hearing good things. Had to book a couple of weeks in advance but that's always a good sign in my book. Food was excellent as was the service which was friendly and prompt. Can't recommend it enough

Having only been here a couple of times, I decided to give this place another visit. The food was of good quality (Beef cheeks were lovely). However, I did feel that 3 mains, 1 starter and a bottle of wine was quite expensive at £80+ for a lunchtime meal. Having said that I will re-visit even though the Bistro is... More

My wife and I had Sunday lunch with some friends recently and had a thoroughly enjoyable experience. The restaurant is situated just inside the city walls on upper Northgate Street so is within easy walking distance of the city centre. It's not a large restaurant and whilst some people may find it rather cramped my own opinion is that it... More

My wife and I dined here for our wedding anniversary and loved the place. The staff were very welcoming and attentive, making sure we were well looked after and had what we wanted. My wife had the duck and figs for a starter and I had the soup of the day (sweet potato, red pepper and chill soup). Both were... More

Booked this for my wife and I based on the reviews. For us it was overrated. Hard chairs with no cushions. Tables very close together, couldn't eat my main course - poor quality steak not well cooked. Offered glass of wine and desserts as compensation but damage done by then. Nice garlic bread with cheese (real rustic bread), wife enjoyed... More
