Good food, nice spot, soured a little by the end

Nice food, really enjoyed it. Group of four of us booked for lunch. Lovely afternoon. The service had been grand throughout with friendly staff and table service. We asked for a few more more drinks and were told rather abruptly by another member of staff that we would have to go inside because there was a a large group and now only two memners of staff on. No issue at all with going in to get a drink but all four of us felt the attitude when it was said and also when we asked for the bill could really be improved. Also we'd have said in person but after being made to feel a bit of an inconvenience we paid and left. Your mayonnaise sachets on outside tables expired in June. Main bar lad in white shirt and lady with short hair were excellent

Great evening for a party of 24

We had a massive party of 24 for a 70th birthday party and were very pleased with this place. Service very punctual, organised and attentive. Food and wine were very good and I strongly recommend the signature burger. Overall it was £42 which was great value given the high standard of the food and service

Great Pizza

On the recommendation of a local who said this place does the best pizzas and being around the corner from where we were staying we came here. We had two pizzas with a couple of very generous salads and it was indeed very good. The rest of the menu looked good as well. We actually had to doggy bag the pizza as it was substantially sized which and eat the left overs the next day.

Dietary menu inaccurate and miserable staff

We visit Guernsey every year but this is the first time we have been to Les Douvres (Dip n Dine) and sadly, probably the last. Our main reason for booking here was the fantastic options for Gluten Free on the childrens menu, which we’d researched in advance and mentioned at the time of booking. Unfortunately, that was not the case when we arrived. A while after our orders had been taken, we were informed that the GF chicken nuggets we’d ordered for my son, were not actually GF. The waitress didn’t seem to have any knowledge of what was GF, so she went away to check. It turned out that most of the items listed on the menu as GF were in fact not. In the end, we ordered GF fish and chips. Only when our five other meals were brought out to the table, were we told by another waitress that the fish and chips were not actually GF!! After expressing my dissatisfaction to the waitress, she went to speak to the chef, again, and we were then told that they could make the fish and chips GF but there would be a wait. Why, only at the time of our meals being brought to the table, were we informed that my sons meal wasn’t going to be possible? We all had no choice but to eat our meals whilst my son sat there waiting for his lunch and he ended up eating on his own. We would have had no problem waiting a little longer for the fish and chips to be cooked, and all meals could have been timed to come out together but it seemed knowledge and communication between staff was seriously lacking. Aside from this, we felt the staff generally looked very miserable and like they didn’t want to be there. I only saw one member of staff smile and interact with the customers (a man in a pink shirt with tattoos on his arm). Whenever we asked for anything (ketchup, jug of water) it felt like a real inconvenience. Basic common sense also seemed to be lacking - our jug of water was brought over with no glasses. We struggled to catch anyones eye to order more drinks so ended up going to the bar and ordering them ourselves. Also, having dogs allowed to run around off lead isn’t ideal. We had several dogs end up under or around our table whilst we were trying to eat. Whilst I appreciate this isn’t the responsibility of the hotel, maybe it should be policy to have dogs on leads - particularly with young children around who may be nervous of dogs, as my daughter was. My only other feedback/suggestion would be to make the seating a little more comfortable - maybe some waterproof cushions on the loungers and chairs. I feel its a real shame as it’s a lovely venue and the food we had (despite the shambles ordering) was really tasty and couldn’t fault it but all of the above really let our visit down.

First visit for ages. Good food in nice surroundings but service wasn't great.

We had a nice meal in their new Garden Room. Nice surroundings and good food. The only disappointing thing was that the service wasn't great. They need more staff as in the garden room we had extended periods of time where we didn't see anyone. Three rounds they forgot to bring one of our drinks for the table which given there were just four of us isn't a great hit rate. Had to ask multiple times before missing drink appeared. Tried going to bar to remind them but only one member of bar staff who was busy. Steak was excellent and if you can't finish your pizza they will give you a box to take home. If they could fix the service it would be amazing. Will definitely visit again to see if it was a one off issue.

Good gin options!

Again, as staying locally we had booked ahead at this establishment. The evening was just warm enough to sit outside and enjoy a couple of drinks, so that is what we did! The barman was quite knowledgeable on his gins, but we also taught him some tips…. The restaurant in the bar area was fairly old fashioned and was reasonably busy on a Tuesday evening. We had duck breast, delicious, crab cake less so and then pork loin and a ‘naked’ plant burger both of which were tasty. The service was a bit slow/ sporadic and we weren’t quite sure why as there were plenty of staff - customer ratio…..

Best Hospitality And Food In Guernsey

Well what can we say. This place was amazing.. we were met by a very friendly face who made us feel welcome from the off. We booked a table for two of us plus a high chair for our boy. It was all ready to go. My partner had the chicken Kiev calzone which she said was amazing. I had the skewers as a main and this was also cooked superbly with a great flavour and heat. We also shared the ribs to start which again were great. We asked to book again for the following night but unfortunately they were fully booked. A big thankyou to all the team who are involved you really have something special. We will return in the future and will also try abs stay in your hotel. Thanks Guys :)

Horrified to find out id eaten meat

I was horrified to find out i had eaten meat today when i had ordered a vegetable lasagne. The waiter who took order tried arguing i had ordered normal lasagne!!! No way....as im a veggie....i felt sick afterwards.

Great food, buzzing atmosphere

We were staying nearby and ate here three nights out of five. Great food at reasonable prices. A wide choice including excellent pizzas and beautifully cooked fish. It’s quite different than it looks outside - we’d imagined it would be formal and out of our price range but it’s gastro pub style and not at all stuffy!

Furthermore, I would not have written this had the general manager had the decency to communicate with me given that I had registered my concerns with the assistant manager a day before we left. We were aware that there were staff shortage concerns for all the hotels on the Island and we felt that this hotel was running down for the winter closure period, however, this is no excuse for poor service just to squeeze the last drop of profit from the guest who have paid good money for a full quality stay. I suggest they should shut down earlier and protect their good will.

In a lovely spot, with a cosy atmosphere. Great service from very jovial staff. Fab pizzas and ice cream selection! Although a shame for coffee haters that 2 of the 3 ice cream sundae options include coffee; the only fault I could think of!

First Class Steak

The bar/restaurant is very comfortable and is full of character. Attracts both tourists and locals. Interesting real ales. My steak was excellent - as good as any I've ever had - and my sundae dessert was huge and delicious - best dessert in Guernsey. A great restaurant in a great hotel. Will visit again!

Good location

Very nice position and pleasant restaurantt. Limited menu but we warned there was a staff shortage when we booked and a reduced offering. Even so they were flexible when my partner asked for slight changes. Would like to visit again when they have a complete menu. Recommended.

Disappointing, as not as expected

I had booked for evening dinner about 3 weeks ahead, online, and was honestly expecting to eat in a restaurant. I verified with a server that we were indeed in the right part of the hotel, and she led us to a table in the bar. There were only a few tables, and none had a reserved notice on them. I found this surprising also, as I’d even had to confirm my dinner reservation online two days before. The service was very good, and the meal was good, except we were permanently bothered by a fly. It was interested in our table, I think, as it hadn’t been properly cleaned after the previous occupants……something sticky over quite a bit of the table, and it was actually quite messy. I hadn’t noticed until our food order came, or I would have asked for the table to be cleaned. We were disappointed with the evening: thought it a rather strange place in fact, and it wasn’t at all what we had expected. As mentioned above, I had booked for evening dinner at a hotel, so I was expecting to eat in a restaurant. Consequently, I don’t recommend this place.

A lovely busy restaurant with good food and great service. Ate in the garden room with nice views of the front lawn, service was attentive and food good, pizza nice and crispy. Would go again.
