Octopus became really my second home. I love the fab atmosphere there and the thrilling view. The food is in my opinion by far the best on the island, the portions are large and the quality couldn't´t be better. Not to forget the variety of amazing desserts they are creating, yummy. The value you get there is more than fair, comparing to other places in the world it´s not expensive to enjoy a delicious lunch or dinner to treat yourself. The staff is very friendly and welcoming. I traveled a lot and lived in different countries, therefore I am very grateful Octopus is here to bring a cool & cozy world- class vibe to Guernsey.

We had great expectations about this restaurant the moment we arrived in St Peter Port for our week holiday for the first time in the island, as we love to eat octopus... you know, like they do in Portugal or Spain. What a disappointment! As far as I could see only one dish had octopus and it was the baby ones. What a misleading restaurant's name. I had the Moules Mariniere as I couldn't be bothered with anything else. They were very small and nothing special. Partner had the full crab which looked/tasted nice but was cooked in too much butter. We prefer olive oil. The portion of my chips to accompany my Moules was the smallest I've ever had. The restaurant is spacious and has a beautiful décor.
There's clearly a shortage of staff as we were asked to come back later (this was dinner time) not because there were no available tables, but because they didn't have enough staff to cope with the demand. This is a problem we saw everywhere, as apparently local people don't want to work in hospitality and they need to rely on Europeans mainly. The waiters looked very tired as they had to almost run around to serve everybody. Although this restaurant is highly priced it's not as expensive as most restaurants in St Peter Port which was a good surprise considering the prime location. We found there's a shortage of mid-range restaurants, as they are either fine-dining/gourmet or a handful of cheap value for money eateries. There are no chains of restaurants that we could see (I'm not talking of fast food chains), which is ok but it would give us more choices as there aren't that many restaurants in St Peter Port anyway. Also, for an island which prides itself on fresh fish/seafood we would expect more whole fish dishes, as opposed to just the usual Moules, fish fillets and pasta with crab and prawns. Having said all this: the location of this restaurant is top notch - overlooking the Havelet Bay and the Castle. and offers a good selection of Oysters, whole crabs, lobsters and Moules with various sauces. To note: there were no mask wearing or social distancing rules whatsoever when we visited this restaurant and anywhere in the island (mid July 2021).

Views of the pier are fantastic and the internal theme is modern yet authentic. If you visit Octopus for a meal you can expect high quality of food, however, you can also expect to be kept waiting.
Although this is not the place to come if you don't want to wait 30-45 minutes for your meal to come, the food is definitely worth the wait.

Had an absolutely shocking experience at Octopus last night.
To start off, the food is fine though I would say it's not as good as it used to be.
However, the customer service levels at this restaurant are non existent. For the cost of the food I expect a high level of service and this is not what we received, in fact it wasn't even mid level.
Drinks being ordered and not arriving, empty glasses being left on the table for the duration, waiters bringing boards to the table and when told they're for the crab/lobster we pointed out no one had ordered crab/lobster. Boards being left in front of some and then having to be removed because the food arriving is already presented on a board.
Empty main dishes were in front of us for nearly an hour, nothing about this atmosphere is in keeping with having a nice relaxed meal.
The lack of service means the restaurant loses out in the end, we were all looking forward to ordering dessert but they took so long to clear our empty main dishes that we couldn't be bothered in the end.
This restaurant has always struggled service wise however they've had years to sort this out and have never bothered so we will not be returning anymore. There are far better restaurants in St Peter Port that offer just as good food (if not better) at similar prices but with far superior service.
Bottom line is I don't mind waiting for food etc as long as I feel I'm looked after, however Octopus leaves you feeling stressed and on edge.

Food looked great, drinks whetted the appetite and the setting on a summer day was bliss.. but we never got the chance to sample any of that as despite numerous staff wandering around we were never given a menu. We weren’t made to feel welcome and clearly they didn’t need our custom as at no point were we asked what we would like to order, yet there were 3/4 waitresses floating around a table of upscale ladies, perhaps there coin was worth more than ours. We upped and left after 20 mins of sat there waiting, even when water was brought to the table and we asked for a menu it wasn’t forthcoming.
Went to Coco down the road instead.

The food here is great but the dining experience is miserable. We arrive and order drinks. They don't come. We ask again. They don't come. We order bread. It doesn't come. 30 mins later the drinks come. We order bread. It never comes. After the starters, the table is just left without being cleared. When the mains come, we ask for something to take the fish out of its pot. It doesn't come. We ask again. It doesn't come. After the mains, the table needs a wipe. We ask but this doesn't happen. We go to get a cloth to do it ourselves.
This is so disappointing. We visit this restaurant a couple of times a year - since it opened - hoping it will get better but the fact is they just don't care. As long as you are paying they have no interest whatsoever in providing service.

Had a voucher to use at Octopus so decided on a lazy Saturday lunch. Staff were very attentive, polite and very prompt to take orders for drinks and food. My husband had a vegan starter from a 'specials' board. He was very impressed with this dish. The rest of our meal was what we would expect, except for the triple cooked chips ordered as an extra. These were not crispy as you would expect and not enjoyable. When clearing the table no-one asked if there had been any issues with these as they had clearly been left.

Lunch at Octopus as a treat for myself and my wife.
The food was very good. Probably the best burger I have ever had and my wife's croque madame was wonderful.
These were served on wooden boards which were badly scored and suggested they were dirty. Not pleasant to eat off.
The water glass and water bottle were all chipped and had dirty streaks on them.
Surface of the table was greasy as was the floor around our table.
Service was slow and erratic . Half my meal had to be asked for twice and the bill had to be asked for three times.
First time in my life I have not left a tip.

Superb from start to finish. A warm welcome. We had our menus to browse and our orders taken for cocktails. We had olives and rosemary nuts to enjoy with our cocktails, and then the main event, a hot seafood pot with whole crab and whole lobster to share. The food was delicious, service was unobtrusive and perfectly paced. We can’t wait to go back.

We were looking forward to lunch but when we arrived the staff seamed surprised that we were there, thats what their body language told us as they seemed unable or unwilling to even mutter “Hi”. Then, trying for a table, they looked at their computer and announced that they were full. To me this came as a huge surprise as only about 25% of the tables were being used, and this was at about 13:15 so in the middle of service, bemused by this, we turned on our heels and walked the short distance to the Slaughterhouse, where we were greeted with smiles and shown to a table where the service was impeccable and the food was fantastic. So to me, its a no- brainer; walk the short distance to the Slaughterhouse where you will be welcomed and have a fantastic meal.

We visited twice over the weekend and were really keen to try it as the menu offered an eclectic mix and the location was perfect for a summers afternoon. We also found it to be one of handful of places serving food all day including Sunday.
Back and forth over our reservation request over email left a sour taste in the mouth as initially we couldn’t have anything until 8pm on Sunday… however, we managed to get this rebooked earlier with someone else and with minimal effort…
On Friday early evening when we popped in for drinks and snacks we were told at the door we couldn’t have food… but managed to order some fries (which was all we wanted) with no trouble on the terrace after we saw other guests eating…
Sunday lunch was majorly disappointing after our request for extra spice was received as zero spice and we were too pushed for time to send it back…
All in all we really wanted to like it but there were better options close by.

My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here, with beautiful views over St Peter’s Port and Castle Cornet. Opted for fish soup to start and a goats cheese and beetroot salad - both absolutely delicious! Octopus casserole was nice, but my husband had surf and turf and his sirloin was a bit stringy and tough, which was disappointing for the price you pay for lobster and steak. However, our tiramisu and brownie for desert were wonderful! Staff were all very friendly and attentive throughout and the decor is very relaxed yet also very tasteful. Would definitely recommend booking in advance.

The food was mostly good, except the “ramen” which used the wrong type of noodles and was extremely salty. The service, however, was appalling. We had about 5 different servers during our 2-course meal. Many of them barely spoke English and asking them any questions was difficult and futile. They mistook our table for the next table’s. We ordered pints and were given half-pints. To top it all off, after we finished our mains, we sat around for about 30 minutes and nobody offered to take our dessert order or get us the bill. (The restaurant wasn’t even full.) We’ve been to octopus before and would have given it 5 stars, which is why we really looked forward to this visit. But the quality of the serving staff has really taken a turn for the worse. Disappointing.

As usual in my experience of Octopus, the food was great and the service was almost willfully hopeless. I’ve been before so I knew what was coming (or more accurately, what might eventually be coming). True to form, it took 20 minutes, in a roughly half-full room, for anyone to ask what we wanted to drink. We also had the other classic Octopus experience that if you do manage to get someone to your table, they have to go and find someone else with the specialist knowledge needed to write words on a notepad and walk to the kitchen. They don’t seem short-staffed, but everyone is busy with things higher up their to-do list than serving customers. Eating here is strangely fascinating; how do they get away with it? I suppose because the food is excellent and the location is beautiful; and boy, do they take full advantage of it.

I hesitate to write a bad review, but for a highly-regarded restaurant with French influence I had a very disappointing night. The blue cheese and caramelised onion flat bread was so sweet and salty that it was hard to eat. It could have worked on much thicker bread, but the tastes lacked and subtlety and overpowered the thin base. The main of baby octopus soup was also far too salty to the extent that I could not taste the octopus at all, although there were plenty. I could not finish it- a very dark brown, thin salty broth that might as well have been out of a Maggi packet, lacking any finesse whatsoever. We were served by 4 different people, two ladies who seemed more senior and able, but two guys who didn't seem to know what was going on, could not communicate and presumably were only taken on in desperation. It is hard to complain in these situations as it spoils the evening for the family, and from the other dishes I would say I made two poor choices, so shoulder some of the blame, but I won't be returning a third time,
