We visited here for a family birthday get together, so we had a private room upstairs. The waiting staff were great, particularly as we had a wide span of ages from small children to elderly relatives. The food is obviously mainly based around meat, but the choices are great, with differing vegetables depending on what you ordered. For lunch I... More

We were staying at Murray Edwards college and this was a short walk away, which was good because it was raining! We had a reservation, but we were early and they seated us immediately. Our food was great, and the service was excellent. I would absolutely go there again.

Weekends, when it would seem that the world and its wife descend on Cambridge, may find you having to park some distance away from this restaurant and walk... that said, the walk would be worth it. Food is typically British and centred on meat, although my wife was pleasantly surprised by the cod that she had from the Daily Special... More

My family and I had the early bird three course dinner and it was delicious! Quick and friendly service in a rustic atmosphere!

We turned up off the street with no reservation, but we were fitted into a crowded restaurant with no fuss and no sharp intakes of breath. The menu isn't extensive but it is varied and innovative, the staff were attentive, knowledgable and friendly. The food was excellent and what caused my wife to be so impressed were medallions of steak... More

I have eaten here twice and we went here for dinner after my son's graduation. It didn't disappoint. Black pudding scotch egg with pleasingly runny egg yoke and venison haunch that was so tender it melted in the mouth. Duck was good as was the Barnsley chop and suet pudding of the day. This restaurant is also great as it... More

My partner and I eat at St John's Chophouse fairly regularly, and the service, food and drink have always been impeccable. I regret that this was not the case on the evening of Saturday 18th June, when we visited for my partner's birthday dinner as a party of 5. I'd telephoned the restaurant several days earlier to enquire as to... More

Went for a meal on a table of 4 diners. Menu at first seems a little limited but each person had a different dish and all were amazing! Average amount of diners in the restaurant for a Friday evening but service was very fast and accommodating if something was asked to be swapped on a dish, I.e. Mash potato for... More

We have eaten here a few times before but this time the quality and portion size of the food seems to have declined. For a restaurant that specialises in meat I was struggling to find much of it to eat on my Barnsley chop.

Description
Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.
