We booked a meal here on New Year's Eve for 9 of us - a very special occasion and we were given one of the rooms upstairs. Booked quite a while ago and said it would be a celebratory meal. I did ring a week or so beforehand to ask for some sparkling wine to be ready for when we... More

After a long day at work then travelling to meet my partner in Cambridge, I had no energy or enthusiasm to cook a meal but I really fancied a nice traditional sunday roast, not knowing any restaurants in the area it was quite a struggle to find one local serving a roast at 7pm. Reading reviews of restaurants nearby excited... More

On the whole the food was good and fresh, staff keep busy but are not attentive to the customer they do need to pay more attention to the clients instead of rushing around looking busy.

Lovely old fashioned pub with a modern but sympathetic interior. The business meal in the private dining area felt exclusive and the sectioned areas made it perfect for private business conversations (or saving other customers from work 'banter'). Set menu had a good selection such as wild game sausage roll, duck with red cabbage and Cambridge cream (a version of... More

I've visited this restaurant several times over the last few years and whether I'm enjoying a glass of fizz at the bar before eating dinner with friends, having Sunday lunch with family or an evening dining with my husband, the atmosphere, service & most of all the quality of the food never disappoints. I've enjoyed some of the best Sunday... More

The food here is pretty good, but sometimes can be a bit hit and miss. The staff aren't especially attentive or friendly, which considering the price seems unreasonable. Suspect a lot of this behavior comes with the manager, because all the other Cambs Cuisine places have great service. My other bug bear was we had gone especially for their pre-7pm... More

A large group of us went for our office Christmas meal there. Despite there being more than 30 of us in high spirits the staff were courteous and polite. The food was quickly and correctly served. The place was busy so you do not expect the food to be good but this was. It was well cooked and presented. The... More

This was my first visit to the restaurant and I thoroughly enjoyed it, I had the lamb chops which were delicious and cooked just as ordered. The portions are largish and the service is good however they have a set ordering format and we could not order our drinks and food at the same time.

The St. John's Chop House is just a few short blocks off one of the main roads in Cambridge (Castle Street, which becomes Huntingdon Road as it goes north), but it's well worth looking for. As with so many pubs in England, the Chop House has several floors. We were seated on the top floor and, unlike most pubs (where... More

I live in the US but have been to the St Johns Chophouse on about half a dozen occasions when I have visited Cambridge. It has always impressed. Cosy ambience, good food and service, reasonable prices (esp the early evening menu), and cask ale available. However, I recently took two guests for dinner, and the experience was disappointing. We were... More

Description
Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.
