We only walked in but we were told the table we wanted was reserved but a walk in couple after us got it. Seemed we had a bad waiter who was a bit arrogant but the manager promptly came out. Food was overall good but the sticky toffee pudding was really dry and the waiter wasn't much help at all... More

Nice atmosphere in a hidden away restaurant, the meal however were disappointing. Lamb was overcooked and when we provided feedback during payment, the waiter told us "well, you should have told me when I asked everything is OK". Maybe we should have, maybe the lamb could have been cooked like we asked as well.

I would advise any rabbits, that may be reading this, to steer clear of the St John's Chophouse. My advice for any humans visiting Cambridge, would be to eat at this lovely place. My partner and I both had the rabbit (sorry bunnies) suet pudding with mustard sauce, served with braised red cabbage, and buttery green cabbage. The meal was... More

Was going into find a place for dinner, this restaurant was the first that we encountered on the way from Churchill College, we went in immediately as lights were on. The staff was most kind and welcoming and reassured us that they still got food. We ordered pie, coley, fish and lemon posset, all very delicious. Slightly off the town... More

Fantastic food, great gravy! Lovely service. Highly recommended. Nice location too. Worth searching out. They sell Pilsner Urquell (lager) which really made our day too!

Amazing food of the absolute highest quality. Good speed of service and extremely amicable staff. Peaceful and homely ambience. High levels of cleanliness. You will not be hungry when you leave the St John's Chop House but you might be penniless. It can certainly be an expensive meal out but it is also definitely worth the money. Great value for... We were a group of six for a Sunday lunch, including four foreigners. It was busy as usual and we ordered beef and lamb roasts. The food was good (one of the Yorkshire puddings must have been in the cold corner of the oven, though) and I felt a bit disappointed to see that my Sunday roast lamb had been... More

Fantastic food and service. Waitress who served us, Kings, was brilliant. Parking a little bit hit and miss with a 2hr max stay in the pay and display opposite but food is definitely worth it

Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.
