This place which once was a great find, has changed dramatically in standard and not for the better. Food here used to be guaranteed tasty, plentiful and service spot on. On every one of those levels it has dropped. Today we took friends from out of town, thinking we would have as good a experience as 6mth ago. We are... More

Dear Judefuz1, Firstly let me apologise for what was obviously a sub-standard experience. There are a number of issues raised and I won't try to make an excuse for any of them. I can assure you the team at The St. John's Chop House have been made aware of your comments and they will be acted upon. I would only... More

This is another place run by the guys behind the Cambridge Chop House, The Cock (Hemingford), etc. The event was a company dinner, so a bunch of the guys from work and all had high expectations - having had our Xmas party at the Cambridge Chop House. Service was brisk and lively, food was good, and went down well with... More

our first visit and a very good one at that. The menu has a very much meat feel to it and so it should be going by the name. However , do not be put off by the menu if it does not rock your boat as the specials will almost certainly ! Good choice of wine all served by... More

The food was good however did not match the expensive price. Service was a little sloppy and did not seem passionate about steaks. It would be a great steak house if the prices weren't so high. The food presentation was a little sloppy too. Definitely the less accomplished sibling compared to the Cambridge Chop House.

Had a lovely meal here. Staff were friendly and helpful, never had to wait for a drink. I had the gin and tonic salmon which was just amazing. The lamb medallions were great too, so tender. Lots more to try on the menu, can't wait to go back! The peach Bellini was delightful too, my partner and I throughly enjoyed... More

We only walked in but we were told the table we wanted was reserved but a walk in couple after us got it. Seemed we had a bad waiter who was a bit arrogant but the manager promptly came out. Food was overall good but the sticky toffee pudding was really dry and the waiter wasn't much help at all... More

Nice atmosphere in a hidden away restaurant, the meal however were disappointing. Lamb was overcooked and when we provided feedback during payment, the waiter told us "well, you should have told me when I asked everything is OK". Maybe we should have, maybe the lamb could have been cooked like we asked as well.

I would advise any rabbits, that may be reading this, to steer clear of the St John's Chophouse. My advice for any humans visiting Cambridge, would be to eat at this lovely place. My partner and I both had the rabbit (sorry bunnies) suet pudding with mustard sauce, served with braised red cabbage, and buttery green cabbage. The meal was... More

Was going into find a place for dinner, this restaurant was the first that we encountered on the way from Churchill College, we went in immediately as lights were on. The staff was most kind and welcoming and reassured us that they still got food. We ordered pie, coley, fish and lemon posset, all very delicious. Slightly off the town... More

Just off the beaten track, The St. John's Chop House is a sister restaurant to The Cambridge Chop House. The restaurant is situated in a 200 year old former Almshouse. Split over 2 levels with 5 separate dining rooms it offers a wide range of dining options from an intimate meal in our Reading Room to the party sized rooms on the ground floor. Traditional British food is once again the mainstay, sourced as locally as possible, complimented by a local cask ale and an interesting wine list. Reservations are taken and recommended, especially at the weekend.
