My husband just wanted a burger for dinner so we picked this pub because it seemed to have a good selection of proper ales. He absolutely raved about his Nicholson's burger and the triple cut fries. The service was excellent and we enjoyed the Sunday quiz though it left us scratching our heads.

Hi, Thanks very much for the great review. Glad you enjoyed the burger. The quiz is written by the uni students so it is always a challenge. Thanks Stu More

We found this pub by accident during a day trip. Lovely atmosphere. Polite & welcoming staff. Music pleasant & not invasive. Decided on a pint of Nicholson's pale ale & Gloucester Old Spot sausages & mash with onion rings & gravy each. Sausages, mash & gravy were very tasty, but the onion rings were the best I've ever had... crispy... More

Called in for a lunchtime drink whilst on holiday in Cambridge and liked the atmosphere of this pub straight away, good selection of ales, friendly staff, really nice feeling to the place. Returned the following day and had lunch, my wife had the chicken sandwich and I had the homemade scotch egg, both were really good. Recommended.

Visited here today with two friends on a day out. After searching far and wide for somewhere that had atleast one vegan option we found here. Great atmosphere and lovely menu. Bar staff happy to meet our dietary requirements changing chips for sweet potatoes and ensuring my vegan friend had something suitable. We didnt have to wait long until our... More

My boyfriend and I came to Cambridge for a long weekend. About 11am we decided that we would get some lunch. We was seated and offered drinks which were delicious. We then ordered our food, this unfortunately was where we felt like we was forgotten about. We waited 40 minutes for our food to be served to us whilst we... More

A first visit to this historic old pub, part of the Nicholson's chain, on a second visit to Cambridge, after some shocking treatment at another pub in Cambridge on Good Friday, Easter 2017, we visited this pub the evening before we left, three days later, and the cheery barstaff made us feel like we mattered, they had run out of... First visit since refurbishment (very good) and student memories of fifty+ years ago - drinks only on this occasion as eating elsewhere, but all pleasantly served in a busy late-lunch atmosphere - will endeavour to get back to sample the fayre which seemed to be going down well with the 'punters' - despite the (obvious expected/acceptable) wait on a very... Myself and a dozen of friends were out for an evening and decided to go to the freshly refurbished Mitre. It's fantastic inside with the classic decor and the food is delicious, excellent social environment for Cambridge with the view of St Johns College through the front window

Having a day in Cambridge with my wife - looked like a nice pub so went in and ordered a drink. Then ordered some bar food. Lovely selections of sandwiches displayed on the menu outside to be told sandwiches aren't served on a Sunday because of the high demand for roast dinners. The sandwiches drew me in but I settled for scampi and chips. The scampi was average, chips ok but great peas! These were garden peas full of flavour (I'm a big lover of peas... More
