Marc was very accommodating to our request for a last minute takeaway Sunday roast, even though we were a bit late thinking about it! We had one beef, one chicken and one minted lamb shank (undoubtedly the star of the show). Very much enjoyed by all (including two small children), obviously home cooked, top quality, value for money and delicious. Upon collection, my wife was greeted outside to save her having to leave kids in the car (and for Covid-safe reasons, of course). Would definitely recommend and will return.

The pub is slightly off the beaten track but it is certainly worth a visit. General Havelock helped quell the Indian Mutiny, and he was a great hero in Victorian Times.
Ryan served us and we were happy with the real ale, our service and we were delighted to be able to sit outside, where there was plenty of seating and a covered area as well.
The main roast dinners were priced from ÂŁ9.50 to ÂŁ12. Chicken, Nut Roast, Pork, Beef and Lamb Shank in mint of a Red wine sauce.
Extras were Cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire Puddings and Roast Potatoes.
Children’s meals were priced at £4.75 for nuggets or fish fingers, or £5.50 for a roast.
The pint or two of Seafarers Ale that I had, slid down a treat.
We decided not eat a desert but the apple crumble and custard looked very good.

We were staying in the area for a few days to visit national trust properties and prior to our trip looked up pubs in the area and the General Havelock sounded like a nice friendly pub that did home cooking and not a chain we were not disappointed we visited twice during our stay and were pleasantly surprised by the lovely warm welcome by the manager Marc. The food was very good and reasonably priced. Would definitely return again if in the area. Thank you Marc and all the team you are doing an excellent job in very difficult circumstances

We came here on the recommendations of my sister who had been here before.
It’s no ones fault the layout of the pub being what it is but it could be improved if the locals didn’t sit at the bar watching I pads of sporting events and were politely asked to sit somewhere else instead- with no table service you had to jostle for space for the attention of the lone bar staff.
The food was awful. I ordered veggie burger and chips and I ate most of it because I starved in anticipation. But truth be told the chips were like bullets and like a previous posting the plate was cold as was the rest of my family. Three of whom sent the dinners back to be reheated. Two of them found black hairs in their dinner. We were told that the young girl serving the food has been told a number of times to tie her hair back but doesn’t.
The one saving grace? The bar staff who was polite and apologetic in such difficult circumstances- I wish she was managing the pub.
It can improve but that starts with the kitchen, maybe put dinners on hold and just do bar snacks instead until a better suited cook can be found.

I'm very sorry for your disappointing visit. I have already responded to another of your parties reviews but wanted to reply to yours also.
We were very short staffed on the day of your visit and had a number of problems in the kitchen that day. Your unexpected large group arriving on shift changeover unfortunately led to your meals coming out way below our usual high standard.
We did refund meals and give complimentary drinks as way of apology on the day.
All the staff should have had their hair tied up or wear hats, I will make sure that this is done in future.
Once again I apologise for your bad experience and will endeavour to stop this happening to future visitors.
Many thanks

After not visiting here for a few years for a Sunday roast ,we remembered how good it used to be so thought we would visit . The service was very slow ,the roasts were ok but certainly not the high standard of how we remembered . We would of ordered dessert but with almost an hour passing with us looking at the remains of our dinners sat there we all lost our appetite ,we had to ask for the bill otherwise we could of been sat there waiting even longer ..We were all disappointed such a shame

We had Sunday lunch here with friends and can honestly say it’s the best Sunday roast I’ve had in ages. Staff are incredible friendly and really helpful. I also have a gluten and dairy allergy and they were easily able to accommodate.

Lovely Sunday dinner had the beef out a choice of chicken , pork and lamb shank. Meat nice and tender and veg all very well cooked, nice big Yorkshire on top, would of preferred a couple more roast potatoes rather than mash. For pudding we had sticky toffee sponge and a syrup sponge very basic but very tasty. Good vibe in the pub and very good on sanitizer and social distancing rules.

Went with some colleagues to Pub on 5/11/2021 for meal as we thought we wanted to try some where half way between all of us. Staff were very friendly but when it came to food. one of my colleagues asked us all how is the fish fingers in his baguette were burnt on the inside as well as out! The starters that we had were ok but that apart from the drinks was the best part.

We found this pub as a stop mid way on a long journey, so it was our first visit. There was a good choice of tap ales and other drinks. Our main purpose was lunch and the menu had a good selection of home made snacks and dinners. Two of our group had the steak and kidney pudding and said it was excellent, and they especially mentioned the mash that was creamy and lovely. Two of us had the fish finger baguette that was huge and also came with rustic fries. This was very nice and was too much for either of us to finish.
Overall, this was a great find, far better than the services! The service was excellent, the lady behind the bar was friendly, chatty and couldn’t do enough for us. A great little pub for lunch.

For a Sunday lunch with the family the Havelock is a big hit. Traditional pub offering a Sunday roast menu. Great value, generous portions, friendly service from all the team who genuinely care. All plates cleared and supplemented with a good selection of beers and well kept ales.
