We had Sunday lunch at the pub after reading numerous recommendations. Unfortunately our meal did not stand up to our expectations. We ordered beef and pork, whilst the pork was full of flavour the beef was very thin and somewhat flavourless. The roasties appeared not to be roasted and the veg was very anaemic. The pub is very nice and... More

Stumbled across this late on a very busy Saturday 4 very hungry people. Seemed like a nice pub friendly service. Did feel we waited too long for food, then when it arrived it was Luke warm! Wondered if it had been sitting in kitchen rather than brought out to us straight away. Was tasty though. Although had chicken, chorizo and... More

This is a really friendly place for a drink. Their range of drinks is great, beer selection is excellent and they even have a locally made gin. The beer garden is nice. We ordered some garlic bread which wasn't very good - incredibly thin base, more like a water biscuit. We may go back for food but on the basis... More

A rare find, great little pub with a good selection of cider and real ales, the food smelt amazing and would definitely be planning a visit back to sample some of the specials. Friendly helpful staff.

Spent the day in Clifton Village and decided to visit my old martial arts centre in Hotwells. Decided to pop into this pub to kill some time. Fantastic range of ales, great food and the service was first class. Decent menu and best of all was the fantastic beer garden just hidden around the back. If you are after a... More

We visited here for Sunday Lunch and sat out in the lovely terrace garden ....The roast were delicious plentiful although the vegetable side dish we ordered was more of less raw . The vegetable that accompanied the roast could also have had 5 - 10 minutes extra cooking ( and I like Mine al dente ) All the meats served... More

I love this local pub as every time I go I have a good time. I was meeting a few girlfriends for dinner on a Tuesday to take advantage of the BOGOF burgers. Between us we tried 3 different burgers and all raved about them. The staff are always incredibly friendly and service is quick. We didn't have a dessert... More

The Volunteer is one of my favourite pubs in Bristol so I thought I'd try the Hope and Anchor. It is, as one would expect, a lovely pub - good beer, friendly staff and furnished and decorated just right. The food menu promised good things but the roast beef was hugely disapponting. "40-day hung, glazed in black treacle, cooked in... More

One of the best pubs in Bristol. Great food, would recommend anything on the menu, great beer and staff are fantastic. Would also recommend the sister pub

I visited for the beer festival the pub was hosting early last month. There was a full menu of ale on offer, and as a bonus each pint was only £2.50! The pub must have been seriously losing money on some of the higher alcohol quantity ales, but as a student customer I'm hardly complaining about that. The selection was... More

Traditional pub, bridging the gap between Hotwells and Clifton. Nothing fancy, but a good place to grab a burger and a pint.
