We went to the old bookshop for dinner last night as we often do because they have a new pop up kitchen each month. Today when we went their pop up kitchen was "Izzy and Irie" which we haven't tried before. We had the sharing fish platter for £25 and it was delicious and just enough to fill the two... More

nice pub, not big so if you're planning on eating you should definitely phone ahead. Great Sunday roast and very reasonably priced (along with the wine list). Every month sees a new pop up kitchen serving the rest of the week so a great way to try different things.

Great service. My lad doesn't like spicy food and they only had Caribbean food on so it was going to be spicy. Very kindly they swapped the spicy pulled pork for chicken. The lad loved it. I had Jerk chicken which was lovely. Definitely will return.

Popped in for a beer and ended up having a tapas. The food was awesome. 3 tapas dishes for £10. We had the prawns and potatoes, honey meatballs and cheese and veggie croquettes. We also had sweetcorn and what my girlfriend described as 'the best ever' plantain. This place is really cool. We will be back

...and the joy of tapas is that once you have realise that it's so nice that you should have ordered more, it's totally acceptable to do exactly that!

A friend called me up out of the blue and suggested we go here. Great choice! The food (this month Caribbean) was superb. A sharing platter for 2 people for £13 was great value. There was pulled pork, jerk chicken, rice and beans, sweet potato chips and a great coleslaw. The venue is quirky - full of interesting things and... More

My boyfriend and I visited The Old Bookshop last Friday for a couple of drinks. It's a very quirky bar with a light made out of various brass instruments and the drinks menu looks like an old penguin classics book. It was very busy but I think that shows that it's a locals favourite. Would like to return.

Impromptu dinner and not disappointed. I had the lamb, hubby had steak onglet. Both delicious albeit on the small side for a "main" dish. Love the pop ups the Old Bookshop does and keeping it fresh and different gives the edge over other establishments on North Street which keeps us coming back again and again. Well worth a visit

We ate ate OBS earlier this evening keen to try out the Feastie Boys food What a disappointment it was The flatbread with aubergine garlic and pomegranate was served cold and lacked flavour The beef and lamb main courses were very mediocre The beef chewy and a minuscule portion and the lamb fatty and bland The chocolate tart was rather... Description
The Old Bookshop is a small, eclectic cafe/bar that serves good food at a fair price. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed. The walls are covered in old photographs, typewriters and curiosities. We have guest chefs and pop-up kitchens each month, so menu changes regularly. Don't expect a stuffy restaurant, we are just a quirky little bar that does great food! We also serve delicious cocktails. Our smoking garden has a wood burner to keep you warm on chilly evenings.
