We went mid week and found that there were quite a few others with the same idea. The place has a good smart appeal to it and the menu was varied. I had the swordfish special and my wife had another fish dish. The desserts were lovely too. I ordered the trifle however they were out of it and settled... More

We visited the restaurant over the weekend and were overall hugely disappointed having waited ages to manage to get a reservation. The welcome was slow and took forever to order drinks. We were also sat right near the bar which was noisy and very bright in there. The menu lacked much choice for all courses. I had the venison which... More

We visited recently after an absence of several years. We weren't disappointed! The food was good, the service was friendly, polite and efficient and the surroundings were convivial. The local venison was particularly good.

This place is linked to the same chain as the black horse in Ireland & the quality is the same... Brilliant. The decor and surroundings are lovely. The selection of drinks are great, staff very friendly and a good level of service. The food is brilliant. It's a nice location to go and have a relaxing night out. Only draw... More

The Birch looks quite clean and tidy from the outside and inside was surprisingly impressive for a pub or is it a restaurant with a bar area? Whatever. The bar area is the type of place you would expect in an upmarket hotel and the eating seating area was very light and airy with mirrors making it feel larger than... More

So, the appetisers (dill cured salmon and confit duck leg) were at least very good. The cheeseboard was at least very good. And one of the main courses was very good - the grilled sea bass, even though an ordered side salad was forgotten. The manager seemed sympathetic to the problem with the other main course. Maybe one made it... More

I found this in the good pub guide as the best dining pub in Bedfordshire, and it did not fail to impress. It gave me the best steak I've ever had, and when I asked for mustard, I got a selection of eight. All I could ever hope for, and more.

Just been to The Birch for a special meal for my birthday. What a wonderful place it is. The staff are very attentive & friendly. I received a lovely birthday card and Happy Birthday written on my pudding! Highly recommend the trout, simply delicious! The parsley mash potato was awesome too. We booked here on the recommendation of a friend and were not disappointed. Friendly staff quickly sorted out our pre-drinks and took our food order. Without much delay we were taken to our table. The room is very misleading as there are some large mirrors but the tables are well spaced out. When our food arrived it was well presented... More
