Took them Forever to make 2 breakfast sandwiches. Things slowed down from there. Small sticky buns were $4.25....we passed.

If you want a more authentic and delicious baguette you'll have to drive up to Montreal, and even then it's a close comparison.

We stayed at CrossHaven Farm, very convenient to here while we attended the Vt Cheese Fest. We did not get breakfast but two of us got the Bella Mina coffee (steamed half & half, espresso, honey, and cinnamon), LOVED it, wish I could get it daily in my area! Pastries were good and selection of local items was great.

A sort of out of the way location run with pride and attention to detail. You can buy fine, fresh baked breads to take away or order soups and sandwiches to eat right there. This is a pleasant, open space to eat with friends, enjoy coffee, and talk. Lots of variety in the offerings. High quality ingredients. Lots of pastries... More

The Red Hen bakery turns out a wide variety of breads, but my favorites are sour dough varieties. I especially like the sour dough baguette. They also make French type epis and I like the plain epi, but on occasion they have poppy seed, sesame seed, salt, and other varieties. The plain croissants are flakey and almost a perfect classic... It's a small market, you can buy local olive oils, coffees, teas, mustard, jelly, beer, etc., beautiful baked goods but the bread: OMG the bread, crusty focaccia, hearty rye, wheat, these seeded longish small loaves, etc., they are all good. Aside from the bakery you can also have sandwiches made to order. Haven't tried any of those yet, I'm still... More

I love stopping at Red Hen when I'm driving through Middlesex to Waterbury to pick up a good loaf of bread, a chocolate croissant and maybe some Heady Topper. It's fun to peek into the actual bakery as well. They have their most extensive offerings of bread here, and you can find some bread that you won't find in co-ops... More

If you are traveling I 89, and are looking for a lovely bakery, get off in Middlesex, Vt and in seconds you can be at Red Hen. Their bread is award winning! But the bakery and sandwich shop is fabulous. How can a sandwich go wrong with their bread. I had a beet soup, which was really very good, with... More
