We went for Sunday lunch with a large family group of eleven adults and four children under 5 years old (we were all staying at Bryngarth holiday house nearby). The owners could not have been more welcoming, helpful or understanding. They attended our every need, especially with the children. Wow, what an incredible value meal @ only £10.95 per adult... We visited whilst staying nearby for a couple of days. The food and atmosphere in this pub were lovely. The food was served by very friendly polite staff. We did not feel rushed at all even though the place was very full. I would thoroughly recommend The Axe & Cleaver to anyone

We stopped in here for lunch on our way back from our holiday in North Wales, we were traveling back to Somerset, we had our dog with us so we were only allowed on one side of the bar. If I hadn't been starving I probably would have walked out because the carpet looked so old & worn down &... More

Arrived early in the evening so there were very few people in the pub. Wide ranging menu and the service was friendly and efficient. The steak and ale pie went down a treat. My wife enjoyed the roast beef. The bitter was very good (forgotten which one I had -Privilege?) I think the food is better at the Pilgrim Inn... More

Visited here twice and not disappointed. First night was lambs liver, beautifully cooked and served with fresh veg. Second night I had Chicken with Stilton and apricot sauce - yummy. The food is freshly cooked and you do have to wait but it is definitely worth it. Worth booking for a Friday night as it gets busy

We found this place during a drive around whilst staying in Ross on Wye. We stopped at lunchtime and when we entered we were made to feel very welcome. It appears to be a family run pub and the menu choice was very good. The food we had was excellent. There was a constant steady stream of people coming in... More

Visited the Axe & Cleaver with family during a short trip to Hereford. We reserved as we were a group of 10, and arrived to a nicely prepared table. The food was really nice pub food the steak and ale pie was especially good with lots of meat, not just pastry and gravy! Puddings were nice too, with the ice... More
