I lunched with a couple of friends at Zanzibar. We sat in the chilly back area (formerly the porch; recently incorporated into the main restaurant.) We warmed up quickly by swatting the large flies that were buzzing round the window. Since we were eating early I thought I'd take advantage of the breakfast dishes, "served till 3pm" but was told... Down a country road to the casual and comfortable Cafe Zanzibar left me expecting nothing fancy. But one look at the menu and I was faced with impossible choices - everything looked appealing! The halibut was fresh and perfectly done, as were the accompanying vegetables. Service was great, and will definitely go back next time I'm in the area.

Went on my own after seeing reviews on here and Yelp. Ordered the falafel and the soup special (African lentil). The cup of soup was bigger than I expected. Homemade falafel was really good. It seems to be a restaurant that makes quality healthy food. I'm not vegetarian but there were many vegetarian options. Environment was also nice, service was... More

I found this restaurant here on Trip Advisor and the menu looked really eclectic and interesting so I decided that while staying in the Brentwood Bay area we'd check it out. We had a hard time finding the place in the dark because there's a bank of dense trees in front of it - I'd recommend they put some lights... More

We visited this restaurant with a local friend at lunch time. The ambience is nice as a country style restaurant. The overall area was clean and quite a bunch of people there. I understood that the majority of the customers are locals since this place is rather in an isolated location. The road to get there was fine though, at... More

This is my regular favourite spot to eat and am comfortable going in alone, as a couple or for a larger gathering. This is a very special local family run restaurant with a unique flavour and interesting, eclectic decor. They do lamb very well. Although not much from the street view, one must keep an open mind. Coffee is excellent... More

We stopped in for bowls of soup for lunch. The Mulligatawny was OK but nothing special but the Salmon Chowder was thin and had one small piece of salmon, one shrimp and one scallop. We complained and received one more small scallop. It was an insult. Price for the chowder? - $9.50. Worth? - $3.00.

The food and service at Zanzibar are outstanding. The menu is varied and the prices are very reasonable. Hard to beat, all 'round. When the weather cooperates, you can sit outside, which only adds to the charm.

Good food, good service, great value. We were seated immediately (Sunday, end of August at about 12:30) and a server appeared as soon as we were seated. The menu seems to have something for just about everybody (vegetarian, vegan, gluten free). We both had an omelette - it was served well cooked right through (nothing worse than an undercooked, runny... More
