We enjoyed two days over New Year’s at the Forum Homini Hotel and the meals was enjoyed at Roots restaurant. The evenings include a set 6-course dinner with optional wine pairing – even additional option to top up the glass of wine if you really enjoy that specific cultivar. Afternoons have a simple yet great lunch menu and lovely cocktails. I opted for the Naledi (unique to Roots) and have to say that was the perfect choice for me that don’t prefer sweet cocktails, yet wanted something different to the always obvious Margarita. We also thought to celebrate the departing 2019 with the ‘many macaroons’ option and what a lovely choice that turned out to be! My only constructive criticism would be breakfast … when you order your hot breakfast and are given additional options like mushrooms / potato wedges etc. and you get half a mushroom cut in 3 pieces or one slice of potato wedge it feels a bit ridiculous. We can most certainly complement the flavours, but breakfast usually have a bit more to offer – even if it is fine dining and requires beautiful plating. But overall, I really enjoyed every single dish at Roots and gladly recommend it – it really is a spoil and a proper way to greet the previous year and welcome the New!

We arrived a little late, hence didnt get to see much of the scenery. Despite the dinner lounge being packed, the atmosphere was intimate and delightful.
The staff was pleasant and had much knowledge of the wines and meals they were serving. The explanation of each decadent creation paired with exquisite wines was fascinating.
The rooms are beautifully decorated and had a glass fire place, a perfect, comfy, warm setting for a very cold winter's night - relaxing with top notch complimentary wine.
Heads up, its situated next to a chicken farm that attracts many flies.

The location is simply stunning. The delicious sunset cocktails overlooking the dam, right by a fireside. The service is out of this world and waiters are super friendly and knowledgeable about the venue, the food and wine pairing, which makes the experience even more enjoyable. 5 course meals, beautifully plated, balanced flavours, is simply delicious. Perfect for those special occasions. All I can say is wow and thank you! We will definitely be back again.

We had a fantastic meal that exposed us to new ways of appreciating the ingredients. It was lovely experiencing the different tastes and textures with cooking that really celebrated the ingredients. The atmosphere was special, and the Roots team surprised my daughter with a special birthday cake for her 19th birthday.
A truly enjoyable experience in a lovely setting with attentive and knowledgeable staff.

We had a lovely evening at Roots and would highly recommend them to anybody who wants to have a romantic meal in a beautiful setting. The food was exceptional, the wine paired perfectly with the meal and the venue as beautiful as always. We were treated to rose petals and a cozy fire to heat the area.
The winter menu is exciting and tasty, too difficult to choose our favorite dish but the seabass ceviche deserves a special mention.
Best of all is the service. We were greeted warmly and all our needs were catered for.
Definitely a 5 star restaurant!!!

Had a lovely 5 course tasting lunch at Roots. The setting was tranquil and beautiful, the service attentive and friendly. The food was good value and tasty, though would really take the restaurant to the next level if it was a little more innovative. But overall well worth a special Sunday lunch.

This place is just amazing, from entering the Forum Homini facility and being greeted by our concierge being shown to our table, it was just awesome. Then when my wife opened her menu, she noticed that there is a note saying no Onions, she does not eat onions and she really appreciated that. The service by the lady that served us, I think her name is Anna or Eve, she was brilliant. The food, ambiance, and drink was just adding to the special moments of the evening. Thank you Roots Restaurant for your hospitality and service.

We had such an amazing experience at the Roots restaurant! Wendy's exceptional service, including a heartfelt birthday song, added a personal touch to the morning. The food surpassed expectations with beautiful flavors and perfectly portioned dishes. A truly delightful experience that I can't wait to repeat!

8 of us had some cappuccino’s, water and only 2 bottles of wine - R 900 per person. 5 courses of which 2 was dessert. With such small portions only 1 should be dessert.
The venison was very tasty. The seafood risotto was absolutely awful. The rice was so dry and hard and not tasty at all. The overcooked seafood was plonked on top afterwards. At this price tag we could have had an awesome 6 course meal in Cape Town. Bathrooms at the Reception had no towels, not clean. Very, very disappointing.

Tranquil surroundings in a neat dining hall. Perhaps there is room for some more lavish decor?
The staff were very smart and attentive. Bradley made us feel right at home and well looked after.
All 5 courses were beautifully presented and very tasty, with one small glitch being that the game meat was very tough and sinewy.
Excellent value for money and will definitely visit again😄

Wow. If you're looking to treat someone special a romantic night or weekend away, you've hit the jackpot with this one. (You cam even arrange a day stay and still get back to the the kids in time for dinner at home.. or after your dinner) at award-winning roots restaurant. Chef Michael Nhlapo is sure to impress you with his 5-course top class tasting menu as well as his unique breakfast offering. Beautiful and well-appointed suites, to stay in if you choose too make a night if it. They're set up for romance with a fireplace, great bed, big bath tub, roomy shower (with a glass ceiling view of the stars) and private jacuzzi. During our stay, roots was setting up for a wedding for 100, and it was absolutely beautiful. Highly recommended venue.

This is fine dining at it best..
We had 4 courses, with wine pairing.
A journey from fish to fowl to game..
Our group was 24 people and the kitchen did very well in bring out the food at the same time!
Our group had the one section of the dining room allowing for a little dancing later on.

We initially saw Roots from the start, hence our weekend getaway. Roots offers a set menu each night, drawn up by their own Chef, who has a style of his own. The food is excellent, well selected and perfectly prepared. The breakfast is a four course, different from anywhere you've been, but great. I am not a fish eater, but the Seabass that was served as my starter was absolutely beautiful.
I can strongly suggest that anybody interested in fine dining, make a booking and go and enjoy the food st this restaurant. Great setting.

Good food. Portions are relatively small...thought more innovations can be had with respect to presentation of the food and the actual flavor nature of the food. Service is always excellent. Wine is some of the best in the country - full stop.
