This is very suitable for walkers and there are plenty of beautiful walks in the vicinity of the Ship Inn. It's quite small but very cozy, we went for lunch today and we wanted to sit next to a fireplace and although there are 3 fires (that we saw) only one was lit and there was already other guest sat... We visited the ship inn on Friday 30th December as we were staying in the village for a break. I had booked several weeks before as I was aware it could get booked up. We had a lovely table round from the bar. The service was fabulous-couldn't be faulted. The food-we had eyes bigger than our bellies. Had starters-my husband... More

Having visited The Ship a number of times after "rediscovering" this lovely little pub a couple of years ago we decided to visit for a New Years Day lunch. Realising that the pub could well be busy we called an hour before to book a table to make sure we could eat there. On arrival as usual the staff were... More

We've hadn't visited the Ship for quite some time so we chose to dine here with our friends who used to frequent the pub. A very warm welcome & a cosy atmosphere. Excellent service.

This was a well rated pub and so we had a late lunch booking - 4pm! We arrived a bit early after a walk - it wasnt too busy and we were invited to take drinks to the table. Good menu - we all had a choice to make - and the service and food were good. Relaxed, welcoming, warm... More

Our family visited Castleton to experience the Christmas atmosphere and visit Santa's Grotto and on the way home we went to the Ship Inn at Winkle, the table was pre booked for 11 and on arrival we found they had arranged the tables in such a way all of us were facing each other and it was such a social... We have been a couple of times this week and has a snack on Sunday afternoon that was fresh, tasty and well presented. We had a couple of sandwiches and chips with a pint and were really pleased with what was presented to us so much so there was nothing left, On the strength of this we took my parents... More

We called in for a lunch along with our dog as they are welcomed - there is even a menu for them (we got him rice and chicken) This isn't a flashy restaurant, it's a really nice pub which is friendly and serves decent food for fair prices.

- What we ordered (MAINS) Fish pie Chicken and mushroom pie (Drinks) Pale Ale Dark Bitter We have been here before and love the country vibe, it's a traditional country pub with friendly bar staff, table service and is dog friendly. Great for all the family. The traditional wood fires give it a lovely homely feeling along with locally brewed... More

Having heard good reports about this pub I've not visited for a long time I was looking forward to lunch and a pint at the Ship Inn We arrived about 7 mins after the 2.30pm cut off time for lunchtime food. The barmaid was busy delivering food to a table - a chap busy with his device at the bar... More

Ship I, Manager at The Ship Inn, responded to this review

I must have read and re-read this review 20 times, and I am still no nearer to understanding what we did to offend you so much. We offer an excellent lunch service for two and a half hours Monday to Friday, and all day Saturday and Sunday. The 'owner' did apologise and said 'I'm sorry but we have stopped serving... More
