On the day we were there, the place was crammed. Good energy. We did however have to wait a bit for our server to come and allow us to sit at a small table. Then they had to decide who was actually taking our order. Their bread was very good. Then we were informed at the till that the price on... More

We sat at a long table that was likely the halved trunk of a massive tree. All the patrons appeared casual and comfortable. The smells of the bakery and restaurant mingled deliciously. Food was very good, but the server may have been a bit intimidated by our large group (two young families together).

I enjoy the Loaf's modern, airy and open layout. The hand-made, thin crust pizza is usually pretty good, but my favourite has got to be their desserts menu. During Christmas Season, you can preorder Chocolate Yule Logs, which taste absolutely phenomenal and are nice additions to any Christmas function.

I first visited the Loaf in the fall of 2010 and loved their pizza at first bite. Since that time we always go there for pizza. A couple of weeks ago I ordered the Pizza Margherita and was very disappointed. The pizza dough was thicker than the thin crust I had come to expect. The fresh sauce made with Roma... More

I've been into the Loaf for breakfast a few times. The food is good and reasonably priced and I've always had good service. I'm very glad that they now bring around coffee for refills at your table!

The Aussie staff were inattentive and surly. The kidney beans in the chili were undercooked. Skip it!

I vistied The Loaf in late October and was so impressed by the food but especially the service. Our server Kyle was so excellent in taking care of us that I thought he must be the owner. As a management and business consultant I often help organizations train their staff to create an envirorment for success. Kyle was a standout... More

the food is usually good, service is up and down, fresh baked goods are great, no consistency on food changes daily , portions are big and small, the place is hit and miss, with the exception of the baked "to go " goodies.

Disappointed with how the Loaf has transformed from plentiful, wholesome food to barely-there and, to be honest, just okay food. I loved their eggs Benny, until recently when I ordered it and it came on a thin slice of bread, with not even potatoes or fruit as a side option. I ordered avocado and spinach to spice it up a... The Loaf has been growing and evolving for seven years, from a start-up in a miner's cottage to a firm favourite in Fernie's Downtown core. Owners Phil & Claire Gadd have always designed The Loaf to be accessible and affordable, a neighbourhood restaurant where everyone is welcome and feels comfortable, no matter what the time of day. With excellent food, made from scratch on the premises daily. Now its time for some changes: updating the interior to make a more comfortable dining experience, extending the list of craft beers and offering more wines and liquor and creating an environment where the focus is on exceptional food, good company and the relaxed dining experience. "Our perfect wish for Fernie is a place with craft beers, a good solid wine list by the glass, pizzas, pasta, and some other nice mains, but nothing too fancy. And that's exactly what we're aiming to do at The Loaf."
