After a long couple of days of cancelled flights, rental car issues, travel - we ended up at the Sandbar Cafe for lunch. The staff was friendly, there was plenty of seating, the menu offered very good choices for a very reasonable price. There are vegetarian and gluten free options. I had the burger and it was delish! This was... More

On our recent 'girls weekend' we had the pleasure of visiting The Sandbar Cafe. It was walking distance from our accommodation and recommended by the front desk for a nice lunch. Immediately we were intrigued by the funny and unusual artwork adorning the entry and sides of the building, it certainly has character! Our server, Marion, was a gem. She... More

Excellent place to stop for a coffee or a bite to eat. Staff are exceptional including the cook! Very clean and well kept restaurant. Art work is reasonably priced and from local artists.

We ate there once 3 years ago and it was good. Last year was not so good and this year was terrible. Service was good but could not make up for poor food with no flavour.

Great atmosphere and when warmer can sit on the patio. Take time to view all the pictures on the wall. Food was very good.

Looking for something out of the way with a view. Cute little place, older and very eclectic! Sat on the patio, and enjoyed the view of the water. Fast friendly service. Scallop/bacon burger was a hit with the husband. Salt and pepper wings were good, although a little over salted. Dry ribs were also a little over done, but flavourful.

Since our hiking group got together for lunch at the Sandbar Cafe. I think perhaps that the cafe has seen a change of ownership, which I can tell you didn't change the quality of either service or food. Between us there was, fish and chips, hamburgers, oysters, clam chowder plus some other delights. To my knowledge everybody in the group... More

This is an enjoyable stop on the Coastal Highway between Nanaimo and Courtenay. It is rustic, so if you want elegant, this isn't the place for you. But the food is good, the prices are right, the pieces of art that hang on the walls (all done by Islanders and all for sale, by the way) are lovely, and there's... More

We wandered up the road from our accommodation, fancying a cup of coffe, and found the Sandbar cafe open. When we got inside we found out that there was live music - a folksy sort of group of locals who gather there weekly to share "old timey" and "roots" music. It was a lovely, warm atmosphere. The service from the... More

I have eaten breakfast and lunch here several times and never a bad meal. Stopped in for dinner last night with a friend and again the service and food were both excellent. One suggestion - change the fries. Those frozen tasteless ones just don't match the rest of the homemade taste of the other dishes.
