Best pernil, best local experience in Guaváte! I dream of it from home…

My absolute favorite place off the beaten path. I came to PR on a solo trip years ago and the guy who rented me my car gave me the tip. He said “take the exit off the highway until you find a place on the side of the ride. It will be the best pernil you ever eat.” At the time (before GPS and smartphones), I thought those directions were random and limited but I did exactly that and indeed he was correct. Over a decade and a dozen more trips to the island and I STILL love it and go back every time. Plus I brought my partner and he agrees (without my influence)! If you’re traveling outside of SJ, take 52 south to the Guavate exit (less than 1 hour) and drive until you see a place - it will be the best pernil you’ll ever eat!!!

Authentic Puerto Rican food

Authentic Puerto Rican food and lots of choices. The roast pork was awesome as was the bacalao, batatas and morcillas.

Used to be great but now is down badly greaful of nothing.

This time will be the last time, because its was worst than the previous one. First the "lechon" was suppose to be 2lb, but it had about 3/4lb of pure meat-off bones, looks like the person scraped the cutting board and place them in my order. Yes, only bones like the Dr. Bones from Startrek. The "pasteles" were under Cooked and water damaged and blind, two tiny pieces of meat each and more skinny than Popoye's Olivia. It looks like they were under water for a week. The "alcapurias" if you can call that an "alcapuria" was old and greasy and over fried. This was a take out order, maybe that was the reason, but that is bad business. It's sad to se an establishment grow to be come a money making pit first and service and quality not to be found. Horrible service and expensive.

The service sucks, way to expensive for a lechonera and the food was not that good. Better try another of the many lechoneras along the road and skip this one. The arroz con gandules had no gandules, I’m not kidding it was ridiculous and the lechón was eatable thats the best I can say.

Where is the beef

They have staff that are not organized, and they don’t follow any Covit 19 protocols. Where is the beef because my order was bones and pig fat and soggy pig skin. I know it’s was busy but the staff was the ones holding the lines. We wait for half the meat and the sides were cold. Sorry I will avoid this place in the future.

Waste of time

I’m a local and it’s really not worth it, the lines are extremely long for a pile of bones that they give you. That’s has no flavor at all everything. WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY

Something has change

We have been twice at this place because we like the local food of PR but the food on this place has not been the quality of years before. Something has change.... and the customer service is poor.

Not what I expected

I love Lechón and was looking forward to some all week from the town of Guavate. We decided to stop at Lechonera El Mojito. The food looks delicious which you look at before you place your order. I have no complain with the food but for my taste I feel that the meat needed a little more time of roasting. Maybe it was an off day but the next time I come to this town I’ll try another restaurant. On the plus side they sell a coconut flan which is delicious but they ran out before I could order extra to take home.

Lot of people depending the day and hour. They offer a lot of options if you don't eat "lechon" pork. Even though the food is good it's a little pricey.

One of the best in the Quavate region, food is good , plentiful and affordable, very relax environment and plenty to choose from the puertorrican cusine. Best part is the lechon and the morcillas , don't miss the cuerito tostao!!!

Lechon is where it all begins.

Excellent locals place just off the 52 (exit 32) as you enter Guavate. My wife says that the beans taste just like her grandmother used to make. Lechon, habichuelas con patitas, morcillas, bacalao guisado, arroz con gandules, I had it all. Great food priced right and ready to go when you are. It took us 20 minutes to get here and we ended up eating faster than at a regular restaurant where we would order then wait 30 or more minutes and pay twice the price. Not gourmet. No waitstaff. Just authentic local food served in foam containers with plastic utensils.
