Next to the Legion

We usually go to the Legion #49 on Sat. afternoons, things slow down after the last meat draw and since there is no kitchen we go to the Rod n Gun Club. Supper fare has always been very good, we tried it on a Monday after a day down at the beach, people, pet and wave watching. Mon. the special was fish n chips, but we save that for Fri. in Lantzville, B.C. I went for chicken fingers and my husband had the Quesadilla, they were out of the fingers so I switched to wings, these were very good, not large but very meaty. I should have had the Quesadilla, he'd ordered it with chicken, WOW, it was chock full of lovely large but bite size pieces of white meat and filing. He was so impressed he will order it again. He just has coffee as he doesn't drink alcohol, the staff were always quick to keep it filled and check on us.

This service made our vacation!

Came to the bar with my husband last Saturday. We were just passing though on our way to tofino. Our bartender Christine was so helpful with not only her island knowledge but her positive attitude and yummy cocktails. We hadn’t planned on spending much time here just wanted a quick bite but we enjoyed her company so much we ended up staying for 3 hours (and several cocktails). She was such a ray of sunshine on what had been a very stressful travel day! Thank you Christine for helping us relax and we had a great time at shelter thanks for the suggestion!

A group of twelve for lunch

We were on the pub side which is a nice area that can handle larger groups. Most of us ordered drinks to start and around 8 ordered at one time. Food came out fairly quickly with no mistakes and everyone seemed happy. I had the Yorkshire sliders and will say that they were great. There was a serving of salt pepper wings that looked really good and report was that they were. An order of calamari that had peppers and other items were also reported as very good as were the seafood crepes. Can't say what the rest ate but everyone was satisfied. Not the first time here but always seem to come away happy. Menu has a good selection in my opinion.

Awesome food!

We ordered online for pickup. I ordered the Yorkshire pudding and my wife got a fish burger. I swear 3 people could split the “Yorkie” and be well fed. So good. Online ordering is well set up. We got a text telling us our meal would be ready in 10 minutes (this was 6:30 on a Sunday evening). Unfortunately, we live about 20 minutes away so I called when we were still 10 minutes out. The very friendly and accommodating staff said, “no problem at all, we’ll keep it warm for you. Next time, just mention it in the note section when you order and it will be ready for when you get here.” Great experience and well worth repeating.

Appetizer and a beer

This is a regular place for me so I stopped last nite on my way so as to not have to cook I had a beer and ordered their Calamari. It was nicely cooked but was very bland and tasteless, I salt and peppered the heck out of it. I was hungry so i ate it. Sorry to say I will not be ordering it again

You have to love a place that has excellent food as well as customer service! The waitress was friendly and efficient. The food came to the table hot and delicious! My friend and I both had the beef dip and we're pleased to see they didn't skimp on the beef! Plentiful and well seasoned. The jus was flavorful as well. My only recommendation would be to give the restaurant side a facelift.

Not great this time

2/5 not good. We are from out of province and have been coming here for many years and have always looked forward to it. Tonight was a sheer disaster. The yorkies were actually cold, the fries were limp and stale tasting ... no one could eat them ... and there was a contaminant in the cider vinegar. Two of us were very hi gry and shared the cold Yorkie sliders but the fish and chips were returned, and not charged for, and the fries just sat there. On the other hand, the appies of calamari and chicken wings were a good 7/10. Will be a long while before we try them again. We understand that staffing is an issue but please have some standards and even check the food before you send it out to customers!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, and the waitress was very good!

As a thank you for helping out my gal I was treated to a meal at a restaurant of my choice. It's probably been over 10 years since I ate at the Rod and Gun not for any particular reason. I think I have it my head that it's just a bar and I don't go to bars. Some might think walking into a restaurant that basically is almost empty is a bad sign, but for us it's the best sign. It means we get fast, efficient and friendly service, the kitchen is not overwhelmed, and we can be as silly as we want without people staring at us lol we had the loveliest server named Jamie, and took our time and enjoyed the hour and a half that we spent there not only eating but chatting with her. I don't often order soup unless it's exactly what I want, and I couldn't have been happier unless they brought a bigger bowl combined with a walnut salad and garlic toast, it was a perfect meal for me. I'm also one of those lucky guys who's better half doesn't always finish her portion, so I was able to also enjoy part of her burger and poutine. We both raved how good the food was and how clean the place was, it was spotless and the friendly warm disposition of Jamie made it a must return restaurant. Sunday is taco night so next Sunday I'm treating and I'm having the fish tacos. I can hardly wait!

Lots of potential - Friendly servers

Menu has lots of 'comfort food' ... Thing that caught me eye was the stuffed Yorkshire pudding .. It was good (not great) with mashed potatoes. Their fish and chips is under-cooked ...thick batter not cooked all the way through. Good portions though.

Patio atmosphere on the side of the pub is really nice. Excellent food and even better service. Nice beer selection with some Island highlights. One of those stops on Vancouver Island that is dependably reliable for good food and service.

Busy and loud

We wanted pub food. While the service was absolutely great (one server on the floor at 530 pm and she did amazing) we made the mistake of sitting on the bar side. It's smelled like urine and the food was just ok.

Loved everything about this place

Classic comfort food done very well in an amazing setting. We sat outside and loved it. But what we loved most was the service team. Great people working hard to give their lined-up guests the best experience possible. Will come back.

Giant Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding was to die for

My husband and I decided to try the Grille for Valentines Day since we were in town for a hockey tournament. We’d seen the menu online and were intrigued by the Giant Stuffed Yorkshire Pudding. It did not disappoint. It was so good but huge. I ended up taking half of it back to the hotel for the next day. The restaurant wasn’t anything fancy but the food was good and the servers were very nice. They even gave flowers to all the women since it was Valentines Day. It was a nice night out and we raved about the food to all the team parents. Definitely will go back if we are ever in Parksville again

Friendly Place

I had the Giant Yorkshire Pudding stuffed with Roast Beef, Mashed Potatoe and Veggies. Daughter had the Monday special One piece Cod and Chips. Everything was very tasty, service was good. I would recommend a visit to anyone.

Extremly loud music

Too bad the live music is so loud.... I have to yell into my partner's ear and he still had trouble hearing me.... and we were sitting at the other end of the building. Besides that, good food and good service. Price is fair. The travel date option below don't match the month and year i was there
