GUU Izakaya is my most favorite restaurant in Vancouver, BC. By most, I mean including all the Chinese, Japanese, and other cuisines. Each time when I visit Vancouver, I must visit there. The tradition started at the first GUU in Thurlow stree at downtown Vancouver. Could you believe people wait in front of its door for 30 mins before open,... More

Went with group of friends for dinner on a Friday. The place is very authentic Japanese both in style, service and food. You are greeted by all the staff in Japanese when you enter and exit. All the orders are shouted out in Japanese from the waitress to the cooks. The background music is quite loud, so not the place... More

Okay, it was a little loud but the service was accommodating. I have a shellfish allergy and was presented lots of great options that were fabulous and my friends had equally enjoyable selections. More than enough food that was cooked to perfection - squid, lamb, rolls, etc. They aim to please.

Small but cozy. Didn't experience the bad service mentioned below, it was ok. They did forget our okonomiyake, but they handled it accordingly and it arrived not too long after. They had a "today's special" menu, the prices were really good. Only 1$ for a tuna sashimi on rice (tuna don)! 9$ for 3 kinds of sashimi 9pc. But the... More

Food: very good and varied selection, some seasonal fresh mussels were ordered and were quite good, sashimi/rolls also great. They offer black sesame ice cream, a must try if you have never had it. Service: rushed/hurried, will most likely be served by a few different people; fast Atmosphere: was a halloween theme night so it was a bit crazy! not... More

I just wrote about the "pretenders" of Japanese restaurants in Richmond, this one is not. It is not upscale and they do not pretend to be. You can see them cook right out in the open and it is reassuring that there is no shortcutting in the preparation. You can see the noodles being fried and unagi being grilled. No... More

Ever want to feel like you are back in Japan? Aberdeen has a nice variety of places to feel back there, and the food its even better, the chefs are nice if you are at the bar. I would highly recommend better service by the waiters

The place is an izakaya, so it's expected that the portions would be small - normally, you'd need to order three to four items to make up the equivalent of a regular meal. However, each item isn't inexpensive, so you could be looking at 25-30 bucks (before tax and tip) before you head out the door. Having said that, the... More

I have been there multiple times, I love their food! especially deep fried food! However, this incident just pissed me off so badly! My bf and I went there for lunch, He ordered a lunch box with curry croquette and BBQ eel ( forgot the name.. he orders it every time he goes) I ordered a beef curry rice. We... More

Reserved a table for three few days in advance but received a table where all three of us facing the wall on the side of the room. I requested a change but was given a table that can only be available for 45 minutes. We accepted the new table and thought we will leave as soon as we are done... More
