A disappointing experience

On a whim, my husband and I decided to have fish and chips for supper and look at the sea crashing on the rocks. This is a perfect spot for wave watching and staying warm. We ordered our food and asked if they had a glass of sauvignon blanc. Our very pleasant waiter advised us that he could serve us a white blend and offered us a tasting. It wasn't great but it was drinkable. We were so busy watching the waves, we failed to scrutinise the bill until after we had paid. That was our error. It was then we noticed that we had been charged R41 for Hampton Sauvignon Blanc. We pointed out to the waiter that there seemed to have been an error. He apologized and called the manager. She eventually understood what we were saying but was unable to do anything about it as there was only one button on the till!!!! I asked if she could find a glass of sauvignon blanc and we would share it to make up the shortfall. She declined. She said she would get a piece of paper and pen to take down our details. She never came back and we left in disgust. The blend was worth R25 at best. A very disappointing evening that left a bad taste in the mouth.

Good food and service as expected it is a quick service counter and fish cook almost to order- so fresh! You can order the Hale fish- suggested. 2 large filets flash fried with a crunchy crust with chips for 95 R You get a slice of lemon with. Tomatoes sauce and malt vinegar on tables. Can buy small cups of tartar sauce, sweet Thai chili sauce, pink sauce or Peru Peru sauce for 8 R.

Beautifully cooked fish

This is definitely the best place to find fish and chips in Cape Town. The fish is cooked in a thin and crispy batter with so much love it just falls apart when you cut it open. You'd expect this level of expertise from fine dining not a casual diner. The portion is greedy but you eat it all it's so good, not knowing when you'll get another taste. The view is waves crashing on the window of the restaurant and.a door that opens onto the rocks with crashing waves. Wonderful!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lousy chips

The chips are becoming as bad as at the Muizenberg branch, hard and inedible. The fish was ok, but should have been cooked more. Sadly the batter is heavier than it used to be. The place is still popular, but I will not return. Indifferent service.

Well, never ever again! Never ever ever again! The hake and snoek "portions" are so small that it borders on false advertising! Chips? Really??? No bread rolls available ... you can only buy a 1 litre cooldrink with a family box (I trust this makes sense to them) ... dirty, dirty, dirty ... And yet the lines are so long! Are our standards so low that we continue supporting this craziness??? I'm checking out!

Really good Fish & Chips at a great price.

A delightful rustic seafood/fish & chips take away or eat in place, right at Kalk Bay harbour where even the seals come for a bite . Service is quick and efficient, the staff are very pleasant & cheerful. Henry the manager has things running smoothly. So take your purchase & either eat in or take a walk along the pier, with totally calm water one side, while on the other the waves spray up & over the wall.

Never again

I wanted a fish roll they only sell nuggets on rolls so i ordered calamari and 2 x fish and chips parcels. When i got to the car in their parking i opened the calamari roll it was ice cold and it was calamari sticks. I didnt take it back cause i wouldve blown a gasket for the cold fake calanari. When my wife and i arrived at home the fish and chips was dried out. The kids refused to eat it. Very disapounte and never wi i go tjeir again. Staff is froendly though. R300 wasted 😮‍💨

Beautiful views and friendly atmosphere

This restaurant is beautifully situated against the sea with windows that showcase roaring waves and seals catching their dinner. Our server Caitlin was lovely, very friendly and helpful. The prices are extremely reasonable- matching those of the takeaway and the food is well sized and delicious.

Raw fried fish

We waited 2 hours from 18h30 until 20h30. We ordered the platter of R300. Received one piece of fiah short. We sent the fish back twice due to it being raw. We have eaten here several times but firat time experienced raw fiah. Amanda Brink, 060 564 5780.

Amazing Service

Food was amazing. Fast and efficient service. All the waitron were great but special shout-out to Bukiwe who was extra amazing and considerate. We were a table of 18 people and she made sure each person was considered. Thank you Bukiwe 😊

Amazing hidden gem

Totally amazing fish and chips (we had the hake), quality, fresh, not the usual cheap greasy stuff in a super clean environment by the sea. What made this extra special were Tracey, Nondi and Avela who were utterly fabulous. Great food meets superb service- we will be back!!

Very Disappointing

Firstly food came very late. Portions of fish were dry as if it was fried longer than they should've been, chips wasnt fresh. Will definitely not be coming here again. Pity I didn't take pictures of when food arrived.

Tastes as good as it looks

We got spectacular views of the ocean and the waves crashing as we enjoyed the company of friends and a really classic and tasty fish and chips meal. If you want fish and chips that tastes as good as it looks, and by the sea, Lucky Fish is the place to be. We had awesome and friendly service from Kaitlyn. A must Cape Town experience.

Unpleasant experience

We arrived after the lunch rush. The place was not clean. There was no place to wash your hands. The tables were sticky and the bucket with the cloth for wiping the tables was on a table at the door with dirty water in it. The floor needed a good sweep. There was a hand broom and dustpan at the door (were we supposed to clean the floor and tables ourselves?) The portions were inconsistent. I have been to the Muizenberg branch many times before and will continue to go there BUT I will not be eating from or at the Kalk Bay branch again. Is it because it is on the Harbour that the standards are lower? Many tourists flock to the Harbour to see the seals and walk along the pier. I was unpleasantly surprised at the overall experience especially since I have had lovely experiences at the other branch.
