Il Barrino, situated in the picturesque town of Montisi, Is a perfect location for a slow night out. Don't expect to be served quickly, your food will take a while. Why not kick back, enjoy a bottle of wine and have a conversation with someone? Everything is very reasonably priced so don't hesitate to enjoy the reasonably priced drinks and... More

Don't eat here expecting fast food! It is a proper family-run Italian restaurant and Gianluca will explain all the dishes and how they are prepared in a friendly, funny manner. If you want wine, ask him to recommend as the local wines are spot on! You can get drinks and snacks from about 7.30 in the morning - except Monday,... More

The attention to detail is everywhere--the deep selection of wines, the four or five different olive oils on each table, the amazing and varied meal choices, the spotless rest rooms--even the art has been selected to compliment the experience and tell the story. Montisi is situated in a scenic part of Tuscany and the food at Il Barrino is absolutely... More

Came here by chance while touring between Bounconvento and Montipulciano. We were told the restaurant was full but we could eat in the cafe. Had wonderful pici dishes in a couple of ragus. Best parts may have been visiting with Gianluca (sp) and watching the neighbors stop in for an afternoon cafe. Montisi is a lovely small town and i... More

This place was a surprise--and wonderful. The waiters were great fun and seemed to enjoy both the story telling and the food we were served. The food was fantastic. Our large group loved the experience and appreciated the meal--it was one of the best in our time in Tuscany. It is definitely not a place to expect rapid or efficient... More

This restaurant was a complete surprise. Our group of 6 actually stopped by for a cup of coffee while waiting to meet a friend. Little did we know that there was a wonderful family owned restaurant upstairs. One word of caution - you need to have time and patience to eat here. The atmosphere is wonderful, full of locals, and... More

We entered the bar downstairs after being enticed in with the sign outside, the picture didn't look right and we were about to leave when this fellow came down the stairs asking us if we would like to sample some good food and to follow him upstairs. This was our introduction to Gian. After studying the menus for a moment... More

Local village restaurant and feels of the beaten track. Gian Luca and his family own, manage and cook the food here so very much a family affair. He is onsite and visits with every table attending to everyone. We ate here 3 of the nights that we stayed in Monitisi. The food is lovely with a limited menu available, and... More

GianLucahas an unmatched passion for food and for providing the best possible experience for each of his diners. His verbal menu is presented with such enthusiasm I wanted everything he suggested. Be prepared to take the time to enjoy everything he offers, we stayed for three hours. The Ravioli was amazing!

As per other reviews - ignore the bar downstairs and head up to the first floor. Go early as it is small and fills up quickly. While there is no view, its intimate and there are a couple of windows. It was nice to have linen tablecloths and serviettes - always a good sign! If you like control, go somewhere... More
