We have only been to the "new" Playwright three times, once at the beginning, when it first re-opened, after be completeley refurbished, and three times recently. On the first occasion we were disappointed, but not any more. Maybe the Chef has changed - who knows?,...but the last couple of times we have been to the Early Bird, which is excellent value for money, and nobody tries to "throw you out" after you have been there for while.
It now seems like another restaurant entirely. The food was absolutely SUPERB, which was the only thing lacking the first time round and which put us off going for a while. We had a mixture of starters, all excellent, my husband said the Wonton was fantastic, so I will order it next time. Then we moved on to the main course, where a couple of us ordered the fillet steak, cooked exactly as we wanted it, and to perfection, followed by the dessert. My husband and I ordered this indulgent Belgium chocolate fondant, in a nest of brandy snapps, topped off with vanilla ice cream. I was in chocolate heaven! We also had a couple of glasses of red wine and beer, both of which were excellent.
There was entertainment, I think they were called the Vintage Girls, which would have been a nice, refreshing change to the normal entertainment we are so used to here on the coast. We didn't stop to listen to them, but definitely will next time!
The service was excellent, the decoration is absolutely beautiful, and we were greeted with a warm welcome. What else can anybody ask for?
Well done to the staff of The Playwright who have reinforced our desire to return, hopefully, again, and again, and again in the future!!More
