Nice friendly place

We stop there going back home. We went for the suggestion of the day: the dish was very good and well presented. Staff is good and take care of you. Recommended.

Pizza wonderful base light and thin toppings thick and delicious. Pasta full of cream and great taste. Lovely welcoming waitress who couldn't speak English and we don't speak French but the smile said it all and we got through! Clean and comfortable

Mediocre food, pasta not the best. Not the best hygiene, we found a hair in the pasta. We wouldn’t recommend it. We sat outdoors and the waiter was nice.

A Welcome Addition to Villeneuve Eateries

I say 'addition' because this establishment was being refurbished two years ago during our last visit to this delightful lakeside town. The terrace was packed so we ate indoors by an open window. On the Menu du Jour (SFR 18.50)was Féra, a fish only found in Swiss lakes, of which I'd read but had never tasted. It was delicious, nearer salmon than trout. My wife had a ham/cheese omelette which she enjoyed greatly. With one pudding and half a litre of local wine the bill came to SFR 61, not bad with the post-Brexit exchange rate of 1.27 if you're lucky! 60 francs, twenty years ago, would have been twenty quid! Over this period Swiss prices have hardly moved, but the pound has nosedived! Anyway, well done, the owners of the Aigle (who also own the Taverne de Chillon opposite the castle, according to a local guy sat next to me). Talking of locals, most of the punters that lunchtime looked to be local and that's always a good sign. By the way, along by the station there's a superb deli/charcuterie, ideal for buying the makings of a tasty lakeside picnic! Villeneuve is a charming small town generally and the rebirth og the Aigle has been a big plus!

Nice little restaurant with a very traditional feel. It was busy when we called in but were found a nice table. Really good local wines on offer, we ate smaller pasta dishes but there was also lake fish, various meats, some interesting dishes. When my husband ordered a salad starter, the waiter also brought me a complimentary small green salad which was a lovely touch. A really pleasant evening; don't miss the fantastic wooden carving. Note: they don't take credit/debit cards.

A Right Rip Off

Myself and four friends have just returned from a motor biking holiday across Europe and this was one restaurant we wouldn't want to return to. After specifically asking if they accepted credit cards ( we were staying in Switzerland one night so didn't want to end up with a lot of Swiss Francs) the waiter/owner said yes they did so we decided to eat here. We all chose the Menu du Jour at 17 euros and asked for a bottle of 'House Red' wine. The waiter was surly and unhelpful, the main course was average and when it came to the sweet ( which was included) the waiter said we should have the chocolate desert which his wife had made. We asked for the bill at the end of the meal and were told that they could not accept credit cards so one of our party had to go to a cash machine and withdraw 250 Swiss Francs. We paid the bill in cash and then realised that we had been grossly overcharged, the 17 euro meal was charged at 22 euro each, the sweet was charged at 10 euro each and the 'House Wine' was the most expensive bottle of wine on the menu at 65 euros. We brought this to the waiters attention but he wasn't having any of it, we explained that we had been overcharged but he refused to listen so we asked him to call the Police. The Police arrived, had a word with the owner and then asked for our side of the story, after much 'discussion' the Police told the owner to refund the 5 euro each we had been overcharged and the 10 euro each for the sweet which should have been included. However the wine was a lesson learned and we left a lot lighter cash wise never to return

Well worth the visit if you're in the region. The gnocchi and the coquilles de St Jacques (scallops) were fabulous. Helpful and friendly staff, good choice of wine, lovely decor and very reasonable prices. We'll be back.

Decent food spoiled by the service

I stayed in the hotel in July, 2011 and found it old but charming. I did not have the chance to try the restaurant till July, 2012. We arrived hungry at about 1:30 in the afternoon, near the end of the regular lunch time. We were handed a 15-page menu and told we must complete our order immediatey before the kitchen closed. OK, I know the custom but come on... I asked for 5 minutes and was harangued by the waitress. When she finally shut up, I held up 3 fingers and insisted on her giving me 3 minutes. She relented with a sigh. One in our party surrendered and ordered a sandwich. Two got the plat du jour and I got the ubiquitous "filets de perches" served everywhere on the shores of Lac Leman. We all really wanted a nice salad but could not decipher the menu with all its charts and tables listing various prices depending upon your selection. The food was all pretty good. Compared to other lakeside restaurants in this very touristy area, it was slightly above average. I recommend choosing a more casual place for lunch or showing up early enough to allow yourself time to figure out the way-too-complex menu. Despite the custom of closing the kitchen after lunch, there really is no excuse for the service we got. There are plenty of average restaurants in the area. I'll choose another next time.

Unspeakable slowness of service

Decent meal, extremely slow service arrived at 12 p.m. and left at 2:30 p.m. with only the main course and dessert. More attention to the passing customer we had to ask several times for either the menu or the coffees and the other customers who arrived after us were already all served. We will not recommend this establishment to our friends again like we did before. It’s a shame the deterioration in the quality of the staff will deprive you of customers.

Beautiful setting and well located, decent food nothing more. Slow staff an unjustified wait arrives at 12 p.m. and leaves at 2:30 p.m. with only the main course and the dessert it is astonishing the time the staff takes to serve you and when I made a remark when paying I I was treated to sarcasm as soon as I turned my back. Too bad I like the place
