We dropped in to the Colonist for a quick lunch as we only had 45 minutes. Menu and specials were interesting and there was plenty of choice. Our order was taken promptly we were served our meals in around 15 minutes. The Hotel was not particularly busy at the time so there was probably little pressure on the kitchen. Our... More

Had an early dinner here today, after enjoying a fabulous duck salad just prior to Xmas. So, as it was an extremely hot day I thought I'd would order the same today. Unfortunately I was very disappointed. Heaps of salad (colourful cabbage, onion, some peanuts if you looked closely but way too much dressing and where was the duck???) There... More

We have watched this hotel over the years vary between 'very good' and 'very disappointing' in regards to its food. Unfortunately, the latter is where it is at currently. Went lunch and the steaks were either very rare or very well done and the Crab Linguini was 'crabless'. The quality of meat seems to have dropped too (but not the... More

We live calling u to this pub for a drink and often a platter. The chips and aoli are great as always. The chorizo was very ordinary this time, didnt seem cooked and was cold. Still we enjoy the atmosphere and it's close to home

Another little treasure on Norwood Parade is the Colonist Tavern. A very popular watering hole that also has a very good dining area and menu choices. And most importantly the food in the dining room is very good. If you want to eat outside Mediterranean style, there are tables and umbrellas foot path style available. The Tavern has been renovated... More

I ordered the wild rabbit with Hahndorf smoked bacon. The waitresses were fantastic. They were smiling and attending to all my needs and requests for drinks happily, even though this place is usually packed! LOVED IT! Thank you!

I must admit I thought this hotel looked a little rough around the edges on entry, but after eating there was pleasantly surprised - the food was fantastic, service was good and in winter they have a beautiful open fireplace. Particularly liked the share menu - nice small plates suitable for sharing with friends.

It's the spot where we first drank Sparkling Shiraz, and we've had a few good breakfasts here. It is getting more expensive (the wine prices steadily rising) but it's had a few renovations and remains a really nice spot, a nice antidote to the rougher place down the road.

Always have a pretty good meal here. Sometimes the more exotic dishes miss and sometimes the specials. They will not stock lactose free milk no matter how much me beg (my sister and I can't have soy) which is annoying. I think they charge too much for the size of the dishes. And so silly you cant get a small... More
