My boyfriend and I ran in here to avoid the rain and were warmly greeted by the staff at the end of the lunch service. Extremely good service and value, $15 you get wine and two courses. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Venice.

We were keen to dine here again, on a previous trip to Venice we had dinner here and really enjoyed the experience. It is an extremely popular restaurant and they have set menu , meal portions are generous, very tasty. It is necessary to make a reservation to avoid disappointment. The staff are amazing they speak Italian predominantly but there... More

You know a place is going to be good when it's filled with locals, and this certainly was. We don't speak much Italian and they didn't speak much English but the owner found someone in the restaurant who could speak both, and was very accomodating to us. This place was recommended to us by our airbnb hist and would recommend... More

Fantastic family run restaurant. Traditional Italian food. Full of locals which is a good sign. Great food and the cheapest meal we had in venice. No menus just what was cooking that day which added to the greatness of this place. Food excellent, wine excellent, atmosphere excellent. 10 out of 10

We had an authentic Italian lunch at this Trattoria. There is a set menu for €15 which consists of two generous main courses, a carafe of wine, water and coffee. All the food was delicious and the service was great. There was a queue and it isn't very big, so we sat outside watching the boats go by under the... More

We arrived at this restaurant on Friday night in Venice without a reservation- probably not a good start. We were told that we could sit at the outside table which had some electric bar heaters. The waiter informed us that it was fixed menu and everyone got the same food. All you had to was to say stop and the... More

After reading about the food and the "friendly" atmosphere in the Lonely Planet guide, we were so looking forward to dining at Marisa. What happened instead was the single worst experience of our entire trip in Italy. We arrived early to dinner, as we understood that this is a crowded but small restaurant. Just before us, a group of SEVEN... More

We were lucky to snag their last available table for a Sunday lunch. Got there at 11:45 to ask. Had no reservation. Lunch lasts from 12:30 until 2. We were the first seated and last to leave at 3:30. Ate canal side. Lovely. It was a no menu lunch. About 5 courses. Opening antipasta was 6 dishes. It was all... More

We stopped here for lunch one day during our honeymoon. I have to admit that the pasta here was the best that I had during my entire stay in Venice. Staff were very friendly and the whole meal was very reasonably priced. I hear it gets very busy in the evenings so make sure you book In advance but I... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
