I had a short stop in Venice on the way back from a business trip to Verona, and I googled for a place to eat near the train station. I'm glad I found this charming place that is approx. 1 km from the station. As I entered it was very busy, and I was seated at the same table as... More

The dishes were good, I could have order this in a restaurant, penne alla carbonara, chicken loaf with mushroom / bifsteak with potatoes But really really too much oil, soaking literally in a yellow plate. Great value money with wine and coffee

I was keen to visit this restaurant having heard glowing reports from a friend - a no-frills, no-menu restaurant where everyone is served the same menu of the day: either meat or fish, depending on the choice of the person who was the first to make a booking for that particular evening. Our evening's choice was fish - I hear... More

No menu, very busy restaurant, not a lot of tourism. Very good and abundant meals. The atmosphere is very different and funny, and cheap

My boyfriend and I ran in here to avoid the rain and were warmly greeted by the staff at the end of the lunch service. Extremely good service and value, $15 you get wine and two courses. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Venice.

We were keen to dine here again, on a previous trip to Venice we had dinner here and really enjoyed the experience. It is an extremely popular restaurant and they have set menu , meal portions are generous, very tasty. It is necessary to make a reservation to avoid disappointment. The staff are amazing they speak Italian predominantly but there... More

You know a place is going to be good when it's filled with locals, and this certainly was. We don't speak much Italian and they didn't speak much English but the owner found someone in the restaurant who could speak both, and was very accomodating to us. This place was recommended to us by our airbnb hist and would recommend... More

Fantastic family run restaurant. Traditional Italian food. Full of locals which is a good sign. Great food and the cheapest meal we had in venice. No menus just what was cooking that day which added to the greatness of this place. Food excellent, wine excellent, atmosphere excellent. 10 out of 10

We had an authentic Italian lunch at this Trattoria. There is a set menu for €15 which consists of two generous main courses, a carafe of wine, water and coffee. All the food was delicious and the service was great. There was a queue and it isn't very big, so we sat outside watching the boats go by under the... More

Staying in Cannaregio

Neighborhood Profile
Cannaregio is the second largest sestiere (district) with its busy Santa Lucia train station. Many transplanted Venetians commute from the outlying areas, “terra firma” to the locals, which is shorthand for any place that is not Venice. Two Grand Canal bridges serve Cannaregio, the newest (Constitution, 2008) still a local hotbed of controversy. Ponte degli Scalzi is a busy link to the train station. Nearby shops on the Lista di Spagna offer specialties like pastries and coffee that lure Venetians with a down-to-earth attitude. The Ghetto, where the Jewish population was segregated in Cannaregio, has five historic synagogues with an active Jewish community. The Fondamente Nove bustles with foot traffic to the Rialto and San Marco while vaporettos (water taxis) head to Murano and other islands. Side streets lead into quiet picturesque neighborhoods and palaces like Ca' d'Oro rise directly out of the water.
