Sumptuous menu emailed is what brought us to I Nonni. We’ve dined there many times past years and understand the pandemic has affected staffing but wondered why we had to wait so long in between course—up to 25 minutes! Our server was apologetic but clearly...it wasn’t his fault, he was kind and cont’ to check in. Also, it was very cold throughout the restaurant, we had to move to a different table and still bone chilling cold. The food was very good with a few exceptions. The starter Zuppa di Pesce was absolutely delicious, flavorful and had ample amounts of seafood! We’re still raving about the broth and that little pieces of bread served with it! Next course he had Capellini pasta which was rich and yummy, I had the cockles, also delicious. Main course he had the fish and thought it was just okay. Unfortunately, my Manhattan strip was tasteless and full of grizzle (was this really MS?). Likewise, our shared dessert, chocolate raspberry cake did not have much flavor (seemed it was plated a while ago), and the chocolate dipped strawberries were NOT ripe therefore, inedible. All in all, we were not pleased with a meal that cost $184 per couple, with wine and tip $240. Hardly memorable.More

Friends of ours invited us to have dinner at Osteria I Nonni and what a treat it turned out being. First off the interior is beautiful with wonderfully high ceilings and very nicely appointed. We started out with a couple of carafe's of both white...and red wine as well as a couple of appetizers. The food is impeccable and service a cut above the rest. This was the first time we had dined here and were quite pleased that the pasta dishes come as both an appetizer size as well as a full entree size. We opted to try three of the pasta dishes and all were delicious. No need to go into detail on just how good this place is, all one has to do is read all the five star reviews. They have a terrace that overlooks a small pond which looks to be a great place to have dinner when the weather warms up. We also toured their extensive wine room which is just incredible. The caliber of wines they have onsite is quite impressive. On the other side of the wine room is a deli which has wonderful meats, cheeses and more wines. I have lived in Minnesota for quite a long time and wish I would have known of this restaurant long ago. This is a place where dinner is an experience, plan on staying at least a couple of hours.....enjoy!More

It had been a number of years since we last ate at Osteria I Nonni and I was hoping it offered the same high quality dining experience as in the past. As we start to explore in this post vaccination Covid world, we dined here...last week and were happy to find that the food and service remain excellent. The Calamari appetizer was excellent as was my Ravioli Di Funghi and my wife's Bucatini Con Polpette. Found a reasonably priced bottle of a delicious Chianti wine. Service was friendly but professional. Attractive elegant dining room. Only criticism was that the menu was somewhat limited and I was surprised there was no veal option. With that said, this is a great place for upscale Italian food and we will look forward to dining here again in the near future.More

I started with an excellent glass of red wine that was suggested by my server after I detailed what inwas looking for..the bread is excellent and the calamari was some of the tenderest I have had! I ordered a 1/2 portion of the squid ink...pasta with seafood and spicy red gravey...mmmmm all was above my expectations.More

We celebrated an anniversary here and had dinner on the terrace. Social distancing was more than adequate; the terrace is attractive, nicely planted, and looks out over a small pond in a high-end townhouse development. Service was great--pleasant, helpful, and friendly--and the food was tops....We had calamari to start--crispy, perfectly prepared. Then, on to a big salad which we split--fresh greens, excellent. Then, pasta cacio e pepe--just the right amount of peppery, cheesey sauce, very tasty; and finished our dinner with tiramisu, sweet and luscious! We ordered several glasses of their Roero--a terrific dry Italian (of course!) white wine, not often seen on menus. The entire occasion was delightful. I Nonni is a great place to go for a special; meal--it's a little pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for!More

Probably one of the best happy hour places in the Twin Cities. Upscale and fairly quiet. A great place to meet and discuss or have a nice late afternoon outing.

Overall good. Excellent wine list. Wines by region. Atmosphere is good, a little loud. Avoid the tan chairs, cushions and springs are shot. Chair frame digs in. Food: Bruschetta was good, nice flavor. But bread was a little hard for our tastes. Pumpkin ravioli with...pork belly was excellent. Capellini with Scallops was also good. Service was very attentive.More

Once a year I attend a meeting in St Paul that involves a dinner event. This year it was at Osteria I Nonni. Our group of about 15 had excellent service and food and the evening was most enjoyable. One big plus- we could hear...ourselves talk, not always possible when eating out these days. Lovely atmosphere, knowledgeable wait staff who gave great service without being intrusive. All meals came out about the same time, and well presented. Appetizers for the table were also a hit, wines were nice and overall, a great evening.More

After visiting for a work/hor de ors event, I opted to return few months later for a normal dinner. Was not disappointed. The food was great, albeit seeming a bit on the salty side. Service was fantastic; honestly, really good. Great place.

We chose I Nonni as the place to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary based on photos of their sweet dining room and their wonderful wine list. We all were in town for a niece’s wedding so we weren’t familiar with the dining scene in St...Paul but our instincts told us that I Nonni would be a great spot for the 5 of us. We wanted great food, great wine, great service and a very comfortable setting where we could get dressed up to match the occasion. We got it and more. A few days before our anniversary my brother who, with his wife were gifting us the wines for our dinner, called the sommelier to discuss what might best meet the preferences of our group. He told me he had a terrific conversation with Tom, the General Manager of I Nonni, and out of that they narrowed down what we might eventually choose. I can tell you that from the Champagne to the white to a sublime Tuscan Sangiovese red we had, those wines met and exceeded everyone’s expectations. The food? I suppose I should mention it, cause it was terrific! We each started with a tempura battered deep fried squash blossom stuffed with burrata cheese and garnished with roasted red bell pepper sauce. All of us had salads. I wish I could remember what others had for their main courses but I was so preoccupied by my wonderful Veal Saltimbocca that I didn’t take note. But everyone was still raving the next day when we attended our niece’s wedding. Please note this isn’t the kind of place where you get spaghetti with meatballs so you should look on their website for their seasonal menu to see the type of cuisine they offer. Service was very good. Clearly we were in no rush and we were never made to feel as though we were taking too long. Coffee and some liqueurs finished the evening. But as the old song goes, “The song has ended but the memory lingers on.” I wish we lived closer so we could patronize I Nonni regularly. But our group was from NH, GA and MI. So next time we’re in town... next time.More

My husband and I are delighted we decided to celebrate 33 years together with our first visit to the best Italian restaurant we've tried in the Twin Cities area. It began with the specially printed menus commemorating our occasion. Steve provided friendly and graciously efficient...service throughout the evening. The Insalata di Cetriolo was as unusual and delicious a salad as I've eaten. Both of us enjoyed our outstanding entrees: the Saltimbocca and the grilled lamb loin chop. The desserts were excellent. It was all more than worth the price, and we are looking forward to our next visit.More

First is the good. The atmosphere was wonderful. It's been a long time since I ate at a restaurant with white tablecloths. The dining room was elegant and not obtrusive. The waitstaff was superlative - they were really good sports. And of course, the calamari...was an almost surreal experience. It was that good, with large rings and tentacles, lightly breaded with just the right amount of seasoning and no sauce to hide any mistakes - there weren't any. All of those are A+ in my book. Then is the rest - not so bad. Good, in fact, but somewhat lacking in characteristics that would elevate the dish to the highest level. I had a fettucine with alfredo sauce, ham and pea shoots. It was very good, but the pea shoots were tough and stringy, and definitely past their prime - it's time to say goodbye to pea shoots, alas. I would rate my dish a B+ My wife had the corn gnocchi with house cured bacon and burrata in an anchovy sauce. Every thing was pretty good, except the bacon was so strongly flavored that it affected the rest of the dish. For that, I give the dish a C. Both dishes did not measure up to a standard of excellence. I thought they were still pretty good, but not worth the expense of ordering again. We shall return. The bottom line is that we liked I Nonni enough to try something different the next time, knowing that the quality will be thereMore

Visited with the in-laws last night to one of our favorites. Tommy helped me select a superb Barolo, which he decanted for us and brought to the table. The calamari appetizer was perfectly cooked. The pasta meals were all excellent. Service was super without being...smothering. Warm, cozy atmosphere. Just love this place.More
