I know the Red Lion well but it was the first time for both Carol and Diana. We had a lovely meal, excellently cooked and well presented. Both Carol and Diana were impressed with everything and will take husbands/father there shortly. Only reason I did not give 5 stars was that a glass of sparkling water cost £3.80 Two courses... 4 of us from Bridge had a meal and joined the festivities on New Year's Eve at the Red Lion. We hadn't eaten there for a few months. What a great evening had by all. The food was superb, the highlight of which was the fillet steak - the finest I have had outside of a top international steak restaurant.... More

We've been eating at the Red Lion ever since we moved into Bridge. There's always a wide menu choice and food is good and plentiful and service is excellent. René and Harry are welcome, genial hosts and for all their efforts, deserve to succeed.

Only option for Sunday lunch that didn't have gluten was roast with no option of gravy or any simple sauce. Not what I'd expect from a decent restaurant, shame the chef hadn't learnt how to made a simple sauce from meat stock. Asked if they had a steak sauce - no sorry they all have wheat in. Vegetables, hard with... More

I would not be writing this review if the proprietor had bothered to address my concerns. Firstly the starter was weird, goats cheese with cranberry sauce laid on top of the strangest medley of couscous, leaves and a really strong sauce - mayo or whatever. Main course served with the most disgusting sweet gravy used for the overcooked beef and... More

Just had the most lovely Sunday lunch in the pub. Such a good piece of beef with some lovely seasonal veg. The dessert was absolutely yummy as well and the atmosphere and staff were fantastic. Will be back of course!

A good place for a hungry person to enjoy a satisfying lunch after a long walk! We had the £10 two course lunch, and neither of us could get through it! My garlic mushrooms were superb, and the Cumberland style locally sourced sausage with mash was a very generous plateful! Can recommend. Very franglais with the friendly French owner.

Been several times, usually as a couple but sometimes with others for dinner. Pretty standard menu but there are 'special' evenings. Pub has a good following and the licensee knows his regulars. Have been on other evenings when he is not there and the service doesn't seem the same. Large beer garden and a kids play area, both well maintained.... More

Great menu and big screen sports all wrapped up in an intimate cosy atmosphere for family, quiet dinner or to catch some football with friends on SKY.

Description
Located in the village of Bridge, just outside Canterbury, The Red Lion is a traditional British pub with a splash of French restaurant flair. Eye-catching from the outside, The Red Lion boasts a uniquely old fashioned exterior brought up-to-date with a lick of light coloured paint, while inside is comfortable and cosy, a traditional space with olde worlde charm in its rough beams and pillars the ideal village pub. But while the dcor might be traditional, The Red Lions menu is less so. With the influence of host Rene Renault (from Rennes no less), the kitchen has added French sophistication to locally sourced ingredients - including eggs from the owners own hens in modern creative dishes.
