Food and ambience

Special occasions, Large groups
From flooring and furniture to a new kitchen fit-out, we’re making plenty of changes here. The pub will retain its traditional feel, but with a modern twist - using real woods, leather chairs, and a colour palette of dark greens and greys for a smart, contemporary feel.

Had a quick drink in here before we had dinner next door and it is to be avoided on a Friday evening. A big group of rowdy adults not socially distancing and joining tables together breaking the 6 people rule and walking around without masks....That said we’ve had some lovely lunches here with lovely staff but wouldn’t come here again on a Friday or Saturday evening.More

I visited last week and was shocked to find not only did they not ask for my track and trace details, the bar staff were not wearing face coverings either at the bar on when they served us at our table. Most of the customers...were not wearing face masks nor were they asked to do so at any time. To be avoided during these worrying times.More

Stayed the Saturday night, room was clean and comfortable with all necessary amenities, staff were friendly, helpful and welcoming. Pub was fully set up for covid and was reminded by staff of procedures. Sunday roast was best I’d had in a pub for a long...time I would highly recommend it...in all a lovely place will definitely return.More

No COVID19 adherence whatsoever! It was like stepping into a parallel universe in 2019 and no one knew there is a pandemic outside ... shockingly disappointing when we are on the verge of a further lockdown ... won’t be visiting again and can’t recommend at...this time!! I did get a response regarding my complaint reporting to putting guidelines in place, which they had clearly attempted but: a one way system that no one adhered to, sanitiser not used even by the staff, I witnessed one staff member coughing and sneezing into her hands with no hand washing/sanitiser before serving the next customer. No pens available for tack and trace. A screen in front of the pumps that staff and customers leant round to speak to each other, there were groups standing at the bar chatting ... they were clearly regulars who were related to the bar staff and never told to move away. We assumed it was the landlady who was skylarking around with a group of men at the bar who then lay across our table as she was play fighting with him ... all good fun but absolutely NOT COVID compliant!! There was a party going on with no social distancing, no sitting at tables or anything ... seriously needs to work on compliance! 🤬More

The food and service were both fine but we could have done without the perpetually-banging kitchen door!

Fish & Chips and great service. We were a group of 12 and the restaurant were pretty accommodating in booking a table 24hrs before. Good traditional pub food especially the fish & chips and the Eton mess was not too bad either! If you want...a fab service, ask for Cheryl 😀who was so fantastic in serving a travel weary, demanding and very hungry group.More
