Visited for 3 nights for evening meal, on one night food was not available due to a darts function but on the other 2 nights the meals were great and reasonably priced.
The staff were very friendly and made us feel more than welcome.

Went here just for drinks on a Friday evening.
Positives:
Really close to Rochford Train Station so no excuse for drink driving or need for expensive cabs home
Great live music (The Poachers)
Shows the football
Toilets clean
Close to Stavros Grill after a few too many pints!
Negatives:
Quite expensive (but understandable in cost of living crisis)
Ran out of shot glasses so had a tequila in a jagerbomb glass!
Small venue to don't expect a seat unless you get there early

Lovely food, the manager was so lovely and welcoming and the regulars were also chatty. Shame about a couple of lads that spoiled it at the end having a row (beer induced) apart from that would defo go back

4 of us went to The Marlborough Head for lunch, ordered 4 meals and the lady behind the bar came out and provided all 4 of us with cutlery only for them to bring 3 meals out, waited and waited for the 4th meal before asking how long it was going to be only to be told they only had 3 meals on the order then told we did not order 4 meals which we clearly did. was then told it would be a 25 min wait for the 4th meal.
we had to say no as we was on a tight lunch scheduled. The waitress did not care one bit that there had been a mistake and did nothing to try and rectify the mistake. The decor is dingy and dirty and freezing cold. The customer service was no existent. and would advise anyone to stay well clear.

Not a great place to visit. The beer prices are marked up quite highly compared to other places and the food distinctly average for the price. It's a very 'cliquey' place - the bar staff (and some of the customers) 'look you up and down' when you arrive. Very much a 'local for the locals'. The manager is always there, ever watchful, which can be quite unsettling.
Yes, there's history here, with lots of historic low beams etc. etc. But I found it an uncomfortable visit. And tough on the wallet. There are better places to go.

The bar staff were Ok if a bit standoffish and the landlord (a portly, elderly chap) a bit of a character but stayed for a one drink each. Didn’t stay for any food. New to the area I found the Horse and Groom had a better atmosphere. New to the area, that will be more my kind of welcoming pub. Rochford used to be full of pubs, I’m told, but hardly any left now.

It doesn’t surprise me this was rated one of the filthiest pubs in the UK, according to the Food Standards Agency, and reported by the Daily Mail on 28th Dec 2024, awarding 1 star (the lowest) out of a possible 5.
I visited just before Christmas and it was pretty grubby. I know it’s meant to be an old historic boozer,it at least spend some money keeping g it clean.
It’s also very expensive Nd - one of my pet hates- showed faux resentment when I asked to top up my pint.
Rochford deserves a lot better than this.

Such a shame. This pub looks inviting from the outside but well worn inside. Needs investment, the place looks like it could collapse at any minute. Not very welcoming and high prices maybe as it is near the rail station. Not my cup of tea. Barflies hog the bar.

I was a bit worried reading recent reviews and this place is very clicky and loud regulars cramming the bar. and not that friendly. It also smells a bit musty and could do with a bit of TLC. Very average and not much atmosphere so won’t return.

I’m have recently moved to Rochford. The staff and owner have all welcomed me and my loved ones with open arms.
The food is excellent every time and the beer is always so fresh and full of bubbles!
The cleanliness is also too notch: you cannot fault this place x

But don’t bother putting money in the jukebox because if the landlord don’t like it he skips your song!! Regardless if your there singing along!!

Found this absolute gem close to the hotel we were staying in, fantastic ambience, extremely friendly and welcoming, would highly recommend a visit to any travellers in the area. Definitely go in for a meal, my steak as cooked to perfection!
Mine host Alan couldn’t have been more friendly and the staff on our second visit just as friendly.
