We had a delicious meal here earlier this week and returned for the last night of our holiday. We weren't disappointed. The staff are very friendly and Ruth is exceptionally informative and has her diners requests at heart. My husband has a shellfish allergy and Ruth made sure she noted this for the chef on everything he ordered. After realising on our previous visit, the portions are more than generous, we shared a Chicken Caesar Salad. This was full of chicken cooked to perfection with lovely bacon pieces over a generous serving of lettuce and tomato topped off with croutons and shavings of parmessan cheese. For our main course I chose the Rib Eye steak which was served exactly the way I requested it, cooked medium to well. The flavour was delicious and I chose a mushroom sauce to accompany it. This was served with roast potatoes and the nicest vegetables we have had on the holiday. My better half went for the Chef's Chicken which was fillet stuffed with sausage, again the verdict was excellent. Sadly we did not have room to have one of the delicious looking desserts. All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable experience situated on the waters edge overlooking the bay.The price was reasonable considering we enjoyed a bottle of Valpolicella wine. We will return.

This is a belated review as the last time I’ve been to this lovely restaurant was in July 2019. It was recommended by a colleague of mine and it sure did not disappoint. I found the restaurant employees to be very accommodating if I made a request (ie sitting by the window), in particular Svetlana and if they were not able to assist (as I have the tendency to be look last minute 😅) they would still try their best and that is all that you can ask for. The food is very good, their steak was done very much to my liking and the sausage platters for their starters is one of my favourites. They also have a clubhouse upstairs that I’ve yet to visit but from the music I heard playing it sounds like it will definitely be a good night, especially if they incorporate some shisha. The only thing I would say is that I personally find it a bit cold in there so if anyone is like me and feels the cold really badly make sure you bring a sweater/jumper/shawl to keep you warm! This is a restaurant that I’ll frequent time and time again.

Sometimes you are unaware of what is on your doorstep! The Haywharf is situated literally 5 minutes away from the Excelsior Hotel which quite honestly made it the initial draw; however, once visited you know you will return for all the right reasons. The welcome you receive from Ruth is professional, friendly and highly proactive; she runs this restaurant like a conductor directing the orchestra. The dining room sits in the waters edge, there are people fishing just outside your window or perhaps locals swimming in a non tourist part of the harbour. You get the feeling that this no frills restaurant is something that the locals hold dear and you are lucky if you find it. The menu is medium range but high quality produce presented and delivered, particularly by Ruth in such a professional manner that it is definitely punching above its weight. The wine list offers a medium range of wines with a couple of local excellent wines for those who are looking for something a little bit more. We have loved the atmosphere of this restaurant which changes dependent on the day of the week, the quality of the food but most of all the welcome and the service of all the team. We cannot recommend it too highly for those who intend to visit Malta but don’t forget to make a reservation it can be very busy. Thankyou Haywharf team.

We have stayed in the Grand Excelsior a few times now and always heard (before covid) music and lots of people having fun across the marina at haywharf. So this holiday we decided to try it & OMG what a visit, we enjoyed our time there that much we visited a further 5 times throughout our holiday. Ruth greeted us each time with her amazing friendly, helpful, customer service, she is an extremely lovely lady who made our experience extra special (as well as the other staff) Each night we ate we tried something different, each meal was just as good as the last. The pastas are so tasty, the fillet steak is so well cooked it melts in your mouth. We even managed to fit a burger in... Well a 1/4 as they are massive but super juicy far to big to finish. We spent my daughters birthday there we had a amazing birthday meal followed by a huge red velvet birthday cake all arranged by Ruth. We could only manage one slice of the second cake we had we decided to take it back to the hotel and share it with the reception staff who much appreciate a slice of cake d a cuppa. If you are ever in Malta please make sure you visit this restaurant not once but a few times to work through the menu as all the food is absolutely delicious. Well done Hay wharf and Ruth and her team.

WOW, what can I say other than this was the perfect venue for our wedding reception. We will never ever forget our time spent at the haywharf, it wasn’t just because it was our wedding day it was because all of the staff especially Svetlana and tony put in an extra special effort to make our day extra special. I had nearly two portions of the starters because not only was the soup nice, but the cheeselets were exquisite...give us the recipe tony! The truffles pasta was delicious and I don’t even like mushrooms, so there we go. We even had a special dessert made for us which we somehow managed to eat with how generous the portions were. The view from the terrace was to die for. It was the absolute perfect setting for our wedding day. We will definitely come back to the Haywharf.

Booked this restaurant because of its waterfront location and good reviews. However, it was very disappointing. This was mainly to do with the atmosphere. The pictures tend to indicate that it’s a more intimate and romantic sort of restaurant. Apart from the view of the harbour their is nothing intimate or romantic about it at all. Tables are laid out very much in a canteen style with no candles. The lighting is very bright with big overhead lights over the tables. We asked them to turn the lighting down a bit, which they did, but it was still bright. General vibe was quiet and a bit souless. The food was average. Mushroom vol au vent starter was practically inedible with tough pastry that hoo couldn’t even cut with a serrated knife. Sizzling rib-eye was delivered with so much smoke coming off it that it upset other diners around us. Long wait between starter and main course. Would not return to this restaurant. I think there are probably plenty of other nice waterside restaurants with a much buzzier vibe.

Our experience was amazing. From Svetlana organising everything to the actual day, she was so helpful and supportive and everything she said would happen did happen. The venue is truly amazing and the staff are so attentive and every single guest said how amazing the food was, so many thanks to the chef, Tony Smith. The whole experience was so lovely. They complete made our day. I would recommend this venue to anyone. The absolute best experience. Thank you so much

A few weeks back we decided to choose Haywharf as the venue for our wedding celebration and it was one of the best decisions! From the first contact with their Sales Manager Svetlana, their professionalism and eagerness to help was commendable. Together with the Restaurant Manager Luca, they ensured that all logistics, down to the smallest of details were planned to ensure a smooth running on the day. On the day, everything was executed as agreed, a perfect setup overlooking the sea, mouthwatering food and the most helpful of staff ensuring we are fully served.

We ate here on two occasions, whilst spending a week at Grand Hotel Excelsior, and on both evenings we had wonderful food and drinks! Portions are large, so we never managed desserts, and in fact on the second visit we actually shared a starter. Decor is simple, but the view over the water is great, particularly if you manage to catch the fireworks. Service is friendly and attentive, without being intrusive, and Ruth is a little gem - she certainly looked after us, including opening the gate so that we could return to our hotel without having to climb the hill with our stuffed stomachs at the end of the evening!

The place itself is lovely, with a fantastic view, BUT what really stands out is the food, mouthwatering to say the least. The chef is very talented and our waiter Luca really made us feel welcome, cracked some nice jokes and spoiled us nicely. We will definitely be returning customers, not to be missed if you are looking for a beautiful Mediterranean meal.

We are staying at the excellent grand hotel Excelsior and knew of Haywharfs restaurant from previous visits. The food is excellent with an Asian influence in some of the dishes. Portions are large and the food is very rich. Ruth is very helpful and service is excellent. My mobility is somewhat impaired and Ruth who served us arranged for the security guard at the hotel to let us in via the security gate to save a short but steep incline. We had got a taxi down. A lovely evening. Would recommend hugely. Ruth is very kind and helpful.

I would like to thank Ruth and her staff from Haywharf for the excellent service on a special occassion. Food was delicious, very generous portions with an amazing view. (However I believe it is a bit overpriced the fact that you have to pay an extra €10 if you bring a cake yourself and another €10 to put it on a table instead of storing it in the kitchen.) But that has nothing to do with the staff, the staff is excellent especially with Ruth as their restaurant manager. She went beyond in her service both when booking and also on the day.

We googled some places to eat before flying to Malta and noticed this would be ideal as only yards from our hotel. We booked a table the day before with Ruth, restaurant manager. When we arrived we were seated at a lovely table overlooking the Marina. The food was excellent and very generous portions. I had the mushroom vol-au-vent followed by Pork Cheeks. Both were so tasty. My husband had mussels followed by Rib eye steak, again it was delicious. The wine was also delicious and very reasonable prices. The Team and Ruth were really attentive, we couldn't have asked for anymore. Definitely would recommend!
