Remote location but great food; quiet; very good service; excellent vegan options as well as a variety of choices for omnivores; 3 of us enjoyed a delicious lamb dish

I heard that Rauða Húsið (the Red House) had one of the best humarsúpa (Icelandic lobster soup) around so I made the hour-long drive from Reykjavík to try it. Although we arrived a little early for our reservation, we were immediately seated. The restaurant did...not start getting busy until 6-7pm. In addition to the lobster soups we ordered (2 for 6580kr), we also had the lamb (6590kr), the cod (5990kr), and the lobster pasta (5990kr). The portion sizes were quite large and the presentation was beautiful. Personally, my favorite was the cod fillet as the risotto underneath was perfectly cooked and the fish was juicy and flaky. The lamb was absolutely massive and a tad too overcooked but the mashed potatoes and honey glazed carrots were very hearty. My least favorite dish was the pasta because the sauce veered on the sweet side and the langoustine tails perched atop were a little mushy in the center. As for their famous lobster soup, it was impressive but not my favorite. I loved the splash of cognac in the soup, which was creamy and filled with langoustine tails, but the star anise left a very sweet and licorice-like aftertaste that threw me off. Overall, this was a lovely restaurant with lots of charm and good food at reasonable prices. If you are in the area, I would definitely recommend stopping by. PS- They take AmEx!More

Well prepared lunch/dinner in the small town in nowhere at the southern cost. Like a seaside inn from the 60s. Charming, friendly and well tasting experience. Deserves a lot of visitors ,

Wonderful seafood. Succulent Cod. Pretty little restraint set in a fishing village on the remote coast. Really worth a visit.

Fantastic lobster bisque and freshly baked bread in a cozy restaurant. This restaurant is set in a quaint village on the lighthouse trail in Southern Iceland. It was the perfect stop on a cold, rainy day in Iceland.

The food was excellent as was the service! I had a shrimp salad for starter, followed by cod with cream sauce, vegetables and potatoes. The dessert was a mousse type and was excellent also. The red wine was very good also. Our hosts were wonderful!

We were literally the only people in the restaurant (aside from our server/hostess) so we felt like we were getting a private dinner. The food was amazing -- great lobster bisque and the surf & turf was fantastic! The spiked hot chocolate was also a...warm and wonderful cocktail. Definitely recommend!More

The restaurant was really lovely and the staff was really friendly. But the lobster soup wasn’t that special. The skyr cake and the cod were very delicious and I can only recommend it.

You can order one tasting menu and share it (we did). However, the meals are not large; but they are exquisite.
