Situated in the heart of Topsham, The Salutation Inn has been providing bed and sustenance to sailors, travellers and revellers for nearly 300 years, with Tom and Amelia Williams-Hawkes at the helm for the past five years. Tom is the Chef Director, having previously worked alongside Michael Caines, Gordon Ramsay and Marcus Wareing. With six renovated boutique bedrooms and a high-reputation for gourmet feasting, The Salutation continues to be the go-to destination for celebrations and special occasions, while their GlassHouse is the perfect daily escape for coffee, cake and afternoon tea.

I always like a restaurant that asks you if you have booked and when you say "No" they don't make a fuss but show you to a nice table and still treat you like an honoured regular. Open sandwiches for late lunch, absolutely fabulous and...More
Tom, Amelia and the whole team really care about their guests experience. From the minute you walk in, you're greeted warmly and you feel that you're a guest in a family home. Food is excellent, whether you have a light lunch in the GlassHouse, afternoon...More
Tom and his team transformed ingredients into an amazing gourmet experience! Highly recommend whether for fine dining, a light lunch or scrumptious afternoon tea. If you’re going for an evening me... try the flight of wine and I would definitely stay over!! Breakfasts are wonderful....More
This is our second visit to the Salutation Inn restaurant; last time I reviewed it as "Simply outstanding" - really nothing has changed.
We had the 6 course tasting menu, which was amongst the best meal we have had recently in any restaurant. Nicely selected...More
I'm local and enjoy nipping in for espresso/enormous glass of white wine and a scone or some other likely nibble. Consistently friendly and glorious experience. Appreciation from me.
Try the creations of the patisserie chef and swoon.
The Salutation Inn is a cut above the rest. The food is imaginative, tasty and beautifully presented and the wine list is a proper list put together by people who care about their wine- not something we have seen much of this trip. In fact...More
Four of us spent a wonderful evening at The Salutation Inn restaurant - perfect from start to finish. A warm welcome, comfortable lounge, impeccable service - not too formal but pitched perfectly - and an absolutely delicious meal, from the hors d'oeuvres to the petits...More
We thoroughly enjoyed our four course meal. The recent ‘makeover’ of the building has resulted in an attractive venue, however, some of the artwork is drab and uninspiring.
Friendly, professional staff made us welcome. The menu choices suited all of our group. The food was...More
Far better than last time we went. Gorgeous top rump burguinon and a rhubarb and hazelnut crumble. Accompanied by plenty of freshly baked sourdough bread. Friendly service if a little haphazard e.g. we were given a bowl of olives to eat but the main course...More

There is a superb spacious recreation ground with lots of fun playground equipment for kids of all ages (even fitness kit for grown-up kids) to let off steam. A choice of other smaller playgrounds, too. During the summer months the outdoor pool is great fun, as well as tennis courts. Lovely estuary walks with an abundance of beautiful birds to see, including a bird hide where RSPB staff put on a range of children’s activities. Of course the little museum has activity sheets to help make the most of the visit.
