Excellent food, good atmosphere, very professional and helpful staff. There for dinner, but we asked for the desserts from the lunchtime menu and it was no trouble... The strawberry posses and chocolate delice were both delicious, as was the gressingham duck. Great place!

The waiters were a bit OTT in that they clearly cared. The food was simply perfect. Rarely have I eaten food of such clear quality. This is a restaurant which really cares about how food looks and tastes. Would I return? In a heart beat. Well done in earning a deserved 5.

To be honest we were very disappointed with this restaurant. Firstly the decor was in very poor condition with an horrendous looking air conditioning unit fixed to the ceiling with all the pipes on display with no attempt to conceal such an ugly fixture. There were no flowers anywhere to be seen and the use of paper serviettes instead of... More

Visited during Exeter uni grad week and although I was expecting the restaurant to be packed out each day, when we visited, it was towards the end of a lunch shift so quite empty and quiet. Food; particularly starter and mains were delicious; squid wonderful. Staff very friendly and helpful. We had the lunch menu which was good value and... More

It's never that easy going into a restaurant just before it opens for service. The lack of customers and therefore atmosphere makes it hard to be sure that the right choice has been made. All this and more was on our minds as we crossed the threshold of the Galley yesterday evening. Outside it was a beautiful summers evening (remember... More

Managed to get a last minute booking which is so unusual for the Galley. Celebrated a friend's birthday & she was made to feel very special with superb service, food & wine. The best place to eat fish in the South west!

The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. Food was absolutely delicious... I had the Thai fish cakes to start and can recommend them. It is a small restaurant so cosy but did not feel squashed or too close to other diners. Excellent choice of food .

We had heard lots about The Galley and were really looking forward to our meal. Nigel looked after us like family ! Charming and funny but never imposing he was a perfect host. The food was really superb and faultless. Juicy and perfectly cooked scallops followed by the gilthead bream all washed down with a bottle of pebblebed. This restaurant... More

I so wanted this to be a good dining experience. It is a small restaurent and so tables are very close to each other. I should have asked for a cushion for the hard seats.I accepted the scallops without complaint but actually prefer them much more lightly cooked as they tighten up so easily. The wine was acceptable. The problem... More

Agree with some other reviews about a la carte for lunch, however thoroughly enjoyed our lunch off the set menu. Wife's pork confit a tad dry but perfect when extra jus requested. My fish dish with the fricassee was outstanding. Owner/ manager very welcoming and natural in his chat with diners. We looked at other restaurants in Topsham and plumped... More

Description
Here at The Galley Topsham we want to impress you with 'the best of Devon on a plate'. We are passionate about serving you the freshest fish and seafood, simply and stylishly presented, together with exciting meat and vegetarian options sourced from local farms so we think we have something for everybody. We have a daily changing menu which means we only serve what is in season and locally available, so you can be sure that what you are eating is of the best quality. Our a la carte menu is available at lunch and dinner. At lunch we offer a special menu of two courses for £16. So whether it's a long lingering dinner, a light lunch or a business engagement we have something to suit you. We love wine and have worked hard to create a balanced wine list that includes top favourites along with some interesting options you may not be so familiar with. We are very happy to recommend a wine to go with any of our dishes so please do ask. The atmosphere in the restaurant is relaxed and friendly. We have no dress code and we warmly welcome families with children. Great food is nothing without great service however and we put a huge emphasis on matching the service to your needs. Nigel is on hand front of house to greet you with a friendly smile and make sure you relax and enjoy your meal. With our unique location on Topsham Quay and fabulous views over the River Exe you can soak up the atmosphere of this ancient sea port from the comfort of our two dining rooms.
