I've been meaning to visit Chu Chai for quite sometime now. It's been rated fairly consistently high by fellow tripadvisor users for a reason - it is amazing Thai food, that happens to also be vegan! I am not vegetarian or vegan, but on a recent Montreal weekend trip with a bunch of fellow veggies - we decided to give... More

Excellent! Reasonable prices and varied menu. The "mock" meat looked and tasted as described on the menu. The duck in red curry, tasted like the real thing. The spring rolls were very fresh and the peanut sauce excellent. I could have eaten just the cause. Would suggest this quaint restaurant to anyone who enjoys authentic Thai cuisine. They offer outside... More

Thai inspired, good size menu. Each dish we ordered had very different tastes and aromas. We were 5 people. Rather than the somewhat pricey Taster Menu at $50 per person - we opted to simply order a bunch of appetizers and a few mains with steamed and sticky rice. Portion size of the mains was a little on the small... More

Menu full of pretended meat dishes, it's hard to find something that doesn't actually taste like meat. It's basically a vegetarian restaurant for non-vegetarians. Average Thai food.

Best meal in Montreal, whether you're vegan or omnivore. So much flavour and variety, you can't go wrong no matter what you choose.

Two meat eaters and one vegetarian go to a vegan Thai restaurant and everyone is fully satisfied with service, food and wine! We tried the Tofu in a Peanut sauce with crispy spinach, Crispy Duck and the vegetable green curry with chicken. All were fantastic and we were seriously questioning that the duck was not actually real! Well done!!

Chu Chai is not the best Thai food we've had. It lacks flavor in the dishes, but their desserts are very good. I would say it is pricier than most Thai places we've eaten as they try to be upscale. It really isn't upscale, though. I've grown up eating Thai food and I'm really picky with my Thai dishes. Chu... More

My vegan sister dragged me out for dinner here, promising I wouldn't be disappointed... and she was right. Skeptical, I tried the dumplings in peanut sauce - delicious! My favorite dish of the meal came up next - the crispy seaweed. Simply divine and so full of flavor, we were fighting over every last bit. Of course you have read... More

We love this place so much. The fact that we can get all of our Thai favorites completely vegetarian (and with tasty mock meats) is fantastic enough. But Chu Chai can go head-to-head with any great Thai place and come out on top. They also have far less common dishes, like a duck salad, or an appetizer of leaf-rolled zesty... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
