I've been going to Chu Chai for several years now and my recent visit early this month did not disappoint. The room is pleasant, the service is always good and they have an adequate selection behind the bar. Try the miang kram, waan krob, red curry duck, and beef in three flavour sauce!

Really wonderful meal. Imagine all of your favourite Thai meat dishes, re-done in vegan format. Not only do they get the tastes right - but the textures are spot on as well. Great cocktails. Exterior of the restaurant is underwhelming - but this adds to the charm. Service was really good once they got started - a little slow off... More

I was really excited to try this vegan thai restaurant! I don't mind mock meat, and it was pretty good. We ordered chicken skewers, wonton soup, and chicken curry. I think it was a bit too much chicken, we should have tried a different mock meat but choosing items on the menu was challenging! Next time I would have gone... More

First of all, all the meat is ''fake''. That being said, it was a very refreshing take on traditional thai cuisine with a vegetarian aspect. The table d'hote offered many different appetizers and 2 halves of a main course. I thought that was a great concept. You really can't tell the difference between these vegetarian meals and real meat. The... More

Some vegetarians (like me) don't mind "fake meat" but my wife hates it. Many dishes on the menu contain "fake meat" but some don't. I loved my Miam Kram ("five flavour finger food" - made with ginger, toasted coconut, lime, cashews, and a secret jelly all on a Betel leaf) which went perfectly with the recommended matching cocktail. The Royal... More

Amazing food.. have never had anything like it. Cannot believe it's veg. Even the meat eaters love it! So tasty. Costly, but worth it. If you're veg and plan to hit at least one restaurant in the city, definitely come here. Drinks are okay. Atmosphere is nice. Service is great.

My wife and I decided to try this vegan Thai restaurant for our five year anniversary just to try something different. Neither of us are vegetarians, quite far from it, but we were taken aback by the incredible flavours we had in each dish. They have "chicken" and "beef" plates that are made up of tofu and other ingredients, but... More

There is a reason this place was crowded. The food was excellent as was the service. Athough its in a tourist area -- lots of locals. I would definitely go back anytime!

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
