We decided to go to the Mechant Boeuf for our anniversary. We had an amazing Time. Staff was super friendly and professional. The food was spectacular. Started with the Cheese platter then breaded shrimps.. (wow). Then on to the famous Mechant burger.. Awesome. Live Dj on the weekends. He kept the music going (80's) woohoo. We will be going back... We had trouble finding a restaurant on St Paul Street which wasn't fully booked for hours, but we were able to get a table at Mechant Boeuf without a reservation. The service was prompt and efficient. We ordered a burger which was well cooked and delicious and the pork ribs with Jack Daniels sauce which fell off the bones and... More

We went for a late night snack at 11pm. They were happy to serve us despite the late hour. (several other neighboring restaurants turned us away saying they don't serve after 10) the waitress was awesome and the beet salad and burger were fantastic! Beet salad had goat cheese and arugula and burger was nicely seasoned.

Don't get me wrong, the food is really good..try the burger!!! But many places in Montreal offer excellent same-style food with a better price. The restaurant hires a Dj sometimes but prices are the same no matter when you come and with the Dj or without! The bar is good and they serve their own beer (not bad). However, it's... More

I was concerned about the uneven reviews but we came because it was near our hotel. Happy to say it was great. The decor is nothing to speak of - dated and uneven. But the food was Terrific. My husband declared the burger as the best he ever had. Poutine with pulled pork was super yummy. And pork ribs were... More

The team is glad to read you had a great time with us. Chef and the kitchen staff are very pleased to know you enjoyed you meals that much ;) Also, Méchant Boeuf’s soundscape definitively bends towards classic rock and alternative rock from the 90’s too. Come back on a Tuesday or Wednesday to enjoy it from live musicians !!... More

We came to the Mechant Boeuf for our 25th Anniversary dinner. We had a wonderful meal starting with oysters and ending with creme brulee. The main courses of a ribeye for my husband and salmon for me were cooked perfectly and delicious. Our server Shaun gave us great advice on ordering and we received very personal attention from the manager.... More

The team would like to thank you for mentioning your appreciation of our efforts to insure a great evening at Méchant Boeuf. Of course serving great dishes is important but the experience wouldn’t be complete without the proper service to fallow with it. Thank you again. More

Good entertainment and good food. Different selections for a westerner like me, but good food. Atmosphere was great.

The steaks were really good, as was the cheese plate. Chris was an excellent server and we would definitely come back. P.S. Love the music by the D.J. on Friday night.

After walking around the Old Port looking for a restaurant, we found Merchant Boeuf in a summer evening rainstorm. What a happy find! We adored this cool bar-brasserie, with its hip ambiance and outstanding wait-staff. My Salade Niçoise was a memorable and unique take on the old favorite, with seared tuna -- really exceptional. My husband enjoyed his linguine all'arrabbiata,... More

AAA Angus Beef, a delicious raw bar, colorful cocktails, live music and the best burger in town-Mechant Boeuf delivers on all fronts. A 5a7 fixture, this Old Montreal hub adds a pinch of outlandishness to modern pub sensibilities. It's a fresh spin on post-work unwinding and late-night bites. Montreal's mischievous side never tasted so good!

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
