I love La Carreta! not a "new and trendy" place but the food is to die for and service is great. Been there a few time and will continue to go. Try pupusas, avocado salad and plantains with cream :)

The pupusas are a great size and not very greasy, unlike some other restaurants i've tried. Lots of options to choose from for pupusas as well as other traditional latin-american dishes, like tacos, tamales, etc. Authentic cuisine and very friendly staff. Worth a visit if you are in Montreal.

Good neighbourhood joint with simple, inexpensive and tasty bites. Good place to chat and relax in the heart of Little Italy.

We've been visiting Salvadorian gem for years. They have a good assortment on their menu but their pupusas are incredible: pork, chicken, etc (our favorite are pork & pork with cheese). They provide amazing condiments at no charge (shredded picked cabbage and salsa. PLS, PLS, PLS ask your waiter for the salsa piqante as well!) The Good: - Fairly priced... More

Great food and service. We were 12 English speaking out-of-towners celebrating my son's 50th birthday and everyone of us were delighted with our dinners...the steaks were delicious, pupusas yummy and the sangria luscious. I had asked if I could bring a home-baked cake for my son and they had said fine. They were so nice, they even closed the lights... More

I dined at La Carreta on a Saturday night. It's a simple place, with two dining rooms in all. I had the combo taco. That includes a crunchy beef taco, a pupusa and fried yuca. The taco filled with well seasoned beef, was very delicious, but I would have preferred a little more spyciness. The pupusa was amazing. A perfect... More

I visited on Labor Day, for dinner. First time for Salvadoran food, and it was very tasty!! Not fancy food, but yummy for sure. The restaurant has a nice family friendly atmosphere. The night we visited, service was very slow, but I got the impression this was exceptional. The place was just packed, and the manager apologized honestly and profusely... More

Staying in Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie

Neighborhood Profile
Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie
Rosemont-La Petite-Patrie has one of Canada's most prominent Italian communities, with Little Italy concentrated along the convivial bends of Saint-Lawrence Boulevard. Known for its fantastic bars and authentic Italian fare, the domain includes the Jean-Talon Market, the largest public market in North America. Open year-round, sunny months see fruit and vegetable stalls set up outside the main chalet, while blustery weather draws crowds indoors to meat and cheese sellers, spices and truffles stalls, and for regional delicacies such as rare Charlevoix lamb. While the market dictates what's fresh for local restaurateurs, visitors can please more than their palates, taking in the Renaissance architecture and frescos of Madonna della Difesa, the picturesque Rue Saint-Rominique with its cheerful homes and splendid gardens, or the ornamented thoroughfare of Plaza Saint-Hubert.
