Great service, food was average... Couldn't get a reservation online but we took our chances went right @ 6 P.M. (that is the time JOe Beef opens)..and was seated. Our server was very friendly explained the whole menu in English and the one good thing @ Joe Beef was everything on the menu was for sharing. As for the food... More

This was our most anticipated stop in Montreal and we made reservations a few weeks before we arrived. We started off with a couple of cocktails which were delicious and well made. We were lucky enough to have a view of the bar and watching the lone bartender make drinks, take food orders at the bar was quite a sight.... More

We are from B.C. & made reservations a couple of months ago, having heard GREAT things about this amazing eatery. I Very much identify with the Great reviews before me. We were sat at a table for 2 by the bar area, 'menu' was in chalk up by the bar but we couldn't read it - very small & dark.... More

Very good experience. Sat in booth in main dining room. Outside looked lovely too. Wonderful service and food! Great wine recommendations. Great menu explanation. Fun to walk around gardens in back during dinner. Early reservation started in quiet restaurant which was nice and relaxing and then buzzing by time we left was exciting!

After reading a majority of good reviews we had high expectations and looked forward to our dinner. While we knew the menu was on a blackboard and in French, we were delighted to have our waiter explain the possibilities. Somehow we felt we were a captive audience after he asked us if we wanted steak, or fish. I'm not certain... More

Finally tried this restaurant and was so disappointed. The staff were pleasant but pushy, the $60 18-oz steak was 60℅ bone and fat and came with no sides, and the taste was okay but nothing special. Mais tant y aussi longtemps que tu m'as vu là, il semble qu'on accepte n'importe quoi. Plus jamais.

There's been constant buzz around Joe Beef and it lives up to expectations. A very casual atmosphere, the focus is on the food. The restaurant specializes in local, well-prepared dishes infused with various levels of flavour. The tartelette au foie gras is sublime. It's silky, sweet, smoky and served in a tart shell. The lobster pasta is delicately flavoured that... More

Doesn't look like much from the outside but the food was amazing. We actually sat at the bar and it was a great choice. Our waiter, Gabrial, was terrific and made great suggestions. But all the wait staff were exceptional, nice and friendly. The service was terrific. One our best meals ever. I definitely recommend it. Reservations are necessary and... More

Was invited to Joe Beef by friends and was very much impressed by our waitress that was high energy and had the biggest smile. Food from appetizer to desert was tasty and plenty. You have to have there french fries. They are out of this world. That said I have to agree with other reviewers that it is fairly expensive.... More

We had a wonderful meal at Joe Beef. Oysters, Fois Gras pie, Corn Gratin, Hangar Steak and Halibut all shared and all superior. The only problem was there were so many other dishes we wanted to try but couldn't, Bone marrow with sea urchin, Lobster spaghetti, Veal chop, Roast duck, perhaps its best to go with 4 or more to... Staying in Le Sud-Ouest (Southwest District)

Neighborhood Profile
Le Sud-Ouest (Southwest District)
Once the core of industrialized Montreal, the factories and historic buildings of Le Sud-Ouest have been renovated into homes, museums, and small businesses. The rejuvenated landscape has put its Saint-Henri district in vogue, with cutting-edge galleries and an ever-expanding network of restaurants. Foodies can especially delight in the mom-and-pop shops in Little Burgundy, or at the Atwater Market, where outdoor stalls sell fresh fruit, vegetables, and meat, street vendors have menus of hot fish and wine, and the indoor market offers chocolate, breads, and coffee beans. Dominated by the gentle waters of the Lachine Canal, Le Sud-Ouest is still very much an outdoor town, with a number of pedestrian-only bridges traversing the waters, bike paths along the canal with views of the Leisure Boats, and massive green spaces like Angrignon Park to stop for a picnic, or to play a sport.
