We celebrated my husban's birthday...just the two of us at one of our favourite restaurants anywhere! From the moment we were seated until the moment we left, the professionalism of the staff was marvellous! This is a classic French country restauarnt in Old Montreal. The food is superb, the ambience quiet and romantic and the service is wonderful. The staff... More

The setting is very old mens club. There is no sigh outside so you have to know where you are going. The inside is dark wood and eclectic. The waiter was French, very French, and a hoot. Totally personable. Knew the menu and was glad to make recommendations. My wifes pasta with marinated fois gras was the hit of the... More

We had three great meals in a row during a recent stay in Montreal and this was the third.Despite a foul up in the reservation (mostly my fault, be sure to reconfirm) the maître d' found us a good table in a corner of the dining room from which we could follow the activity. Our meal was excellent, beginning with... More

I've gone back here twice now while visiting Montreal. The food and service have been excellent. It's a pretty little place, with a nice cozy atmosphere. Romantic but not stuffy. Great for an special anniversary or birthday dinner.

This was my first time here but it will not be the last. All food was prepared to perfection and they even managed well with my food allergies. There was no simple green salad on the the menu but I had no problem ordering one and they were also very accommodating about making a special cheese plate for us. The... More

A repeat visit to this wonderful restaurant in Vieux Montreal (see my previous review of my visit in February 2016). The excellent food, outstanding service and warm ambiance are just what I want in a restaurant. The food was first-rate: oysters to start (prepared three ways) and then rack of lamb and duck for our main courses. The waiter did... More

This is a very good restaurant. The menu is more of a list of ingredients than a traditional menu, although I needed someone to explain to me that 'Ocean Delivery' meant fish of the day. A little noisy, a little pricy, but reliably good with service to match.

The restaurant was hopping when we arrived at 8pm on a Thursday. Philippe, our waiter, was very knowledgeable about the menu and the wine list (made a tremendous wine recommendation too). To start, we had the lobster ravioli and the piglet risotto with fois gras. The ravioli was light and delicate. The risotto was the polar opposite - rich and... More

At this very high end eatery, everyone at your table will need to throw down their credit card; but this has a hushed atmosphere in an old world building. Waiters slip silently but quickly. Delicious food, but modest portions.

We arrived at 7 pm Friday the 11 of November with reservation . The restaurant was full by 8pm . We had cocktails and shared 2 appetizers suggested by the waiter that tasted heavenly for the main meal we shared again a Cod that taste like Black Cod but was from I think New Zealand . And a plate of... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
