These are amazing bagels - I had rosemary, flax seed, plain... the cinnamon and raisin are amazing. They're cheap. There are fridges of cream cheese, smoked salmon, dip... whatever you want. And they give you a plastic knife and serviette so you can take it to your favourite coffee shop and indulge! Brilliant

I'm a huge Anthony Bourdain fan and I vividly remember watching an episode where he made a stop at St-Viateur Bagels. My mouth was watering as he showed them making their bagels in a wood oven. So, when a friend of mine suggested we check out this shop on a recent visit to Montreal, I was excited to say the... More

My husband and I stopped here on our last breakfast in Montreal. We knew we wanted to get some bagels to bring home and a few for breakfast so it seemed perfect. Some sesame and everything we're just coming out of the oven - perfect! One and a half dozen of each (plus two with cream cheese to go) and... More

The bagels in this shop were warm and toasty. We were told they use honey in the water when they are boiled and that helps the sesame seeds stick. Wonderful treat!

The best bagels in Montreal. They are hand made as they have been for 50 years, and then baked in a wood fire oven. If you like bagels this is a must visit in Montreal.

Whenever we come to Montreal or when someone we know comes to Montreal a visit to St. Viateur is in order. There should be no other flavours than the sesame, it's all that is needed.

Not that i get to Montreal all that often in my travels, I always make time to come here. Montreal bagels are a thing of beauty. This shop is the best for these tasty breads. And excuse me to all the New Yorkers the Montreal bagel does not care if you can't appreciate the taste and loveliness. It is secure... More

Staying in Outremont

Neighborhood Profile
Outremont, a quaint residential district just north of Downtown, is a peaceful, low-key setting known for its mod cafes and bistros, and some of the best walking territory Montreal has to offer. Visitors can explore the flowering parks and manor estates of Maplewood Street, then window-shop the popular bakeries and coffeehouses on main arteries of Chemin de la Côte-Sainte-Catherine and Rue Van Horne. The modern granola feel is complemented by contemporary art exhibitions, rotating theater productions, and a welcoming public library. Also a nexus for the city's Hasidic Jewish culture, Outremont's diversity resounds in its cuisine and in its architecture. Visit the colorful neighborhood to take advantage of boutique shopping on Avenue Laurier, or to test the artisanal flavors of Avenue Bernard, braving a salmon burger on a squid-ink bun or accommodating your sweet tooth with a provincial chômeur pudding. A visit to Outremont is a relaxing day.
