I found this place on Trip Advisor and I expected it to be nice, but not this impressive. I was honestly blown away and this doesn't happen often. The food was good but what really impressed me was the ambiance, the kind wait staff, and the top-notch music. I feel the music was better than almost all recordings I've heard.... More

Reservations is a must to get a table for the dinner and show. We enjoyed the food. A decent selection was offered. Interesting decor. Live jazz started around 8pm-11pm. There is parking in the garage across from the restaurant: you ask your server to give you a ticket that gives you a parking discount. The place was packed, so service... More

Went on a weekday evening. The place was crowded but still had a few tables left. The menu had a good variety. Our orders were taken promptly and received our appetizers after about 10 min. The nachos were good, in line with what I would expect at any restaurant. The black beans option is definitely more unique and contributed to... More

I work near upstairs. I eat there regularly for lunch and have recommended it to many. The food is always good, the prices are affordable. A good sign is that the Chef has been working there for 20 years or so. A must! At night, jazz bands are live and have been for 21 years. Go to their site, and... More

Hello, Thank you for your positive comments. Juan, our Chef, has been working with us for approximately 19 years. His passion for the kitchen is a major part of our consistently tasty food over the years. Being open for lunch also gives Chef Juan the opportunity to try out new dishes which are not on our regular menu. Hope to... More

After reading about this on TripAdvisor and loving jazz we went for an evening. It was so worth it. The service was great, the wine and food delicious (we both had a burger - yum!) and the music --- well!! The music by Latin Jazz was fabulous. Such a wonderful evening....

I enjoyed the enchanting jam sessions of various young and mature artist while snacking on a favorite dessert. Don't be surprised when you find upstairs is downstairs. I did not have a meal, but the burger platter looked appetizing. The waiter was kind and attentive.it was a fun and affordable night out.

Hi, Thank you for taking the time to review our club. The fact that we are downstairs yet our name is Upstairs makes many people smile:) The Jam sessions are a great way of seeing the different generations of musicians perform together. Hoping to see you again in the future. Best, Joel More

Recently visited Upstairs on a visit from Winnipeg. I accompanied my wife to Montreal on business, and we decided to head over to Upstairs on a Monday evening. The food is good, but not great. The music, however, was outstanding. Jim Doxas and his trio run the Monday evenings. Throughout the course of the evening, other musicians joined them on... More

Suggested by concierge at our hotel. Great venue, waiter excellent, antipasto pour deuce a good choice Good cocktails and drink recommendations. Prices reasonable but best of all entertaining performance by chanteuse Myriam Phiro and her virtuoso jazz band. Wonderful ambience and excellent value night out.

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
