My husband has been to the Upstairs Jazz Bar a few times over the years, and was keen for me to go. It did not disappoint; we sat at the bar and enjoyed the two sets of music (simply stellar) in a packed venue. The bartender was fantastic, and very attentive - we ordered and ate at the bar (I... We had dinner and caught a (sold out) show during our visit. We wanted dinner and music without the party scene. Well, we lucked out walking in to Upstairs. There was a cancelation and we were able the grab a table. The food was good but the atmosphere was great! We LOVED the ginger martinis, followed by dinner, wine and... More

There is a different programme most nights we had the Alex Francoeur ensemble and we stayed for 2 of the sets. They were good and easy on the ears. The place is quite small and was very busy even though it was a Sunday night. The food was good and drinks were too. Billie's mule was served in an interesting... More

I went here on a Friday night after reading some reviews on Trip Advisor. Yes, it is kind of small and cramped, but the atmosphere was great and the music fantastic. We had a table right in front of the stage, which was awesome, but I suspect those at the back did not have such a great view (I note... More

Wow... who'd a thought that an impromptu recommendation while shopping on my favorite Crescent St.. would land me here! So So glad I had this opportunity to experience the "Upstairs" Shtick... The Atmosphere was electric and a buzz for Dawn Tyler Watson.. That Girl made my weekend... she is so better than Diana Krall .. anyday! My only regret was... More

This is a great jazz club tucked away. It is quite small but very cozy. The food was excellent, but quite expensive. Although we didn't find the service to be great, we would most likely return as we loved the atmosphere.

This place is totally under-rated, its small, a bit cramped inside, and unlike most nightlife establishments in the city you almost always have to pay cover. But they have great musicians come through here and I've seen all kinds of great acts, some with star power and others just local students or nobody artists just passing through. Last time I... The variety of artists and the constant flow of live jazz is outstanding! Try the Billies Mule , Ginger Martini, or the Duke Old Fashion. Tuna burger is my favourite with Wasabie mayonnaise and Japanese pickles and house fries.

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
