I've been visiting Takara for lunch or dinner for at least 10 years now, and have never been disappointed. The food is always fresh, and have always had good service. They have a great selection of Bento boxes for lunch, if you do not want to order sushi à la carte.

We used to go here frequently for lunch 10 or 15 years ago, and I thought I'd go back to share it with others. But it was quite disappointing. The décor hasn't changed and, in fact, has basically been left to fall apart. Dust everywhere, cushions with holes and stuffing falling out, peeling wallpaper, and so on. For a restaurant... More

You can see the sushi pre-cut wrapped in cellophane at the bar. Even the rolls were old pre-rolled and cut. So nasty. The roll pieces were falling apart they were so old. Anyone who gave this place more than one star has actually never eaten good sushi. Why oh why did I even order this crap?, could not even finish... More

I like Sushi, but I thought a Japanese Restaurant would have a varied menu. Do not count on it. By the end of the evening I felt like all I had eaten was some raw meat wrapped around large beds of rice.

Much better sushi in Montreal. Sloppy large pieces, poorly rolled and poorly cut. Also, a hint of being less than fresh. Agree with previous, better off going to Sushi Shop.

I've been going to Takara for a couple years now, and it's getting worst and worst. The chef is making the sushi, very sloppy. The pieces are never cut properly. I once was waiting for my sushi, and the chef was behind the kitchen. When prompt with my order, he sighed out loud and proceded to make my order while... More

Nice and fancy place, with expensive prices for what they give. I sat on the sushi bar and the sushi master was very fast and kind. Never the less the quality of sushi was less than expected, with some of the sushi being prepared and cut before I ordered, the same as with sashimi, as I could see the rolls... More

Although I´m not an expert in sushi, I believe this restaurant has one of the best sushis in Montreal. I have lived for 2 and a half years in that city and I´ve dined at least once every two months at this place. The atmosphere is calm and welcoming and the food is consistently excellent. They have a wide variety... More

While Takara’s décor won’t wow you (looks kinda tacky 80s style) and they don’t have the most creative sushi rolls, you can count on them to serve solid favorites every time. Lunch time is buzzing and you will get a great deal from their bento boxes, which include both sushi rolls and other cooked foods. The butterfly roll and the... More

Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
