We had to visit here on our trip to Montreal and it did not disappoint. The smoked meat is out of this world. The rest of the family had smoked meat sandwiches, but I had a large plate of smoked meat served with rye bread. It is a lot of meat, I would recommend the small plate. The Dill Pickles... More

The smoked meat is why we were there and we were not disappointed! Line ups are to be expected but the line moves quickly. It was worth the wait. Old style deli decor and a little cramped. Service is excellent !

You just need to go! Whether you like smoked meat or not this place makes the most amazing smoked meat sandwich you'll ever have. I'm not a smoked meat or corned beef fan and it's something I'd never order, however, this place is an exception! The meat melts in your mouth and is so so flavourful! It is a Montreal... More

You get exactly what you expect. Very old style deli/diner interior, shared tables, brusque servers who've seen it all. Generous smoked meat portions, crisp dills. The kind of place we visited in Winnipeg in the 60's. Well worth it though.

Waited about 45 mins to get in as a big group but we were all able to sit together. The medium fat sandwich was great. Definitely worth the wait.

You may have to wait on line, but the smoked meat sandwiches are big and tasty. This is a bustling, lively place with a great atmosphere (if you don't mind crowds). But, don't plan on lingering over your meal. They have a lot of customers to serve and turn the tables over quickly. The menu is limited; however, what they... More

The locals rave about this place and how tourists need to come here for smoked meat sandwiches while in the city. On one end it was like going back in time to somewhere in the 50's or 60's. This makes the visit somewhat unique. But on the other end the food from that era just wasn't anything special. The sandwich... More

Tried the smoked meets platter. The service was good. The place is always packed due to the quality of the food. If you visit Montreal you have to try it

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
