I went there on a recommendation of locals. The tender meat and the rye bread are to die for! You should definitely try. It is a reason alone to go to Montreal.

Schwartz's is pretty touristy these days and there's pretty much always a line to get in, but the line moves pretty fast and the sandwiches are worth it. I'm no expert but I feel like smoked meat is basically just pastrami but better -- it's not tough or stringy and it pretty much melts in your mouth. Just avoid the... More

Sometime, you go somewhere only for the "legend" ...I my appreciation. The food is just ok, no more than smoked meat over salted. Spot like "m'as-tu vu". The real feeling is be there with friends, happy fiends!

Had to check out Schwartz's Deli after hearing all the hype. A bit of a hike to get to as Metro is about a 20 minute walk away up hill and there was so much construction we walked faster than the bus could get there. Once we arrived there was a huge line up so we opted for their Deli... More

My husband and I walked from the riverfront to this Deli and it was worth the effort...a visit to Montreal would not be complete without visiting this iconic restaurant.

Great sandwiches in this 75+ year old deli. Now owned By Celine Dion but just like it was always. Great sandwiches. Get them mild or fatty. Lean is too lean. This was a great spot for a hangover.

Line up outside. Once you are in it's very crowded as you are bumping elbows with the people next to you. Fast service as they want you to eat and leave. We were in, seated, ordered, and out within 15 minutes. Way over priced, just because it is so famous in Montreal was the reason i went. Will not return!!... More

I recommend the smoked meat sandwich. With mustard. Don't let the humble interior fool you. It is a very good place.

With family in from out of town, and their first time in Montreal, there are some things that you just need to put on your ToDo list.... Schwartz's has been, and continues to be an eating experience unique to this city. I've been to Schwartz's maybe a half dozen times in my life.... Each time as consistently delightful as the... Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
