Holder's is located near Old Montreal (western border, close to the Old Port). Their menu is great - I had the duck confit and really enjoyed it. Only 'issue' I would say that I had is that it is quite busy, especially at lunch (when I went) and can make it hard to hear and have a conversation. Service was... More

This restaurant was recommended by the Concierge in my hotel. It was very busy but the service was efficient and pleasant and the wait staff helpful. Had the foie gras (as you do!), and the duck confit which were both delicious. The wine recommended by the Sommelier matched well with the food. Enjoyable evening catching up with friends.

Recommend a table near the window as this restaurant is very busy and a bit crowded. Service was excellent and menu selection was good. This bistro was a recommendation from a local and it did not disappoint.

This is a prety place and the food was very good. Service was nice also. It was a bit hard to find but worth the effort.

We literally happened upon this place after nixing our first choice (won't mention the name, but it didn't appear to be that great so we just skipped out of there and decided to wing it for dinner). Seriously good prices in Holder, very friendly waiter, quick service, food was delicious. Not super fancy. This place was packed pretty full at... More

This is a delightful, large restaurant in an older building in Old Montreal. It can be crowded and you need reservations. The only problem is that the wait staff are over worked and too few. This makes for a longer wait for your order. They need more staff for sure.

Our concierge made a reservation here for dinner at 8pm on a Friday night. The place was buzzing when we arrived. We were sat rather quickly but waited 20 minutes before our waiter acknowledged us. When he finally came over he took our drink order then vanished for another 10 minutes. We had the salmon tartare (bland) and the buffalo... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
