We were visiting Montreal & wanted to keep our 'dinner date' night - so I did fair amount of research for a well reviewed & highly rated bistro type restaurant & decided to go with Holder...what a fantastic choice! Made an 8:30 reservation, arriving about 5 mins early. The host greeted us warmly & asked if we wanted to wait... More

This is the place to go for a basic French meal. Very busy so make a reservation. Portions are good sized.

I have been to Holder for lunch after seeing the reviews on tripadvisor and was not dispointed. The modern design and welcoming staff give already give a good vibe to the place. Add great food and you have a wonderful restaurant. The menu is a bit expensive, but overall it is worth it.

I've been here a few times with different groups of people and it's been great every time. Once was with a large group of friends and we just ordered the menu, another time with my wife, sister and mother in law and we just had desserts and drank champagne and the final time was with a fairly popular chef who... We had no expectations walking in. Holder was recommended by a friend. The food superb. Do try the papperdelle with mushrooms: the best I've ever eaten. Our friend loves the duck. Service is impeccable and friendly.

Came as a group of 6 for an overnight to Montreal . Food was outstanding and perfect sized portions. Staff were excellent and super friendly. They all went out of their way to serve us and made lots of great suggestions for the rest of our night. Giuseppe was a fantastic host and made sure we were well looked after.

We saw that Restaurant Holder was a top 25 restaurant in Montreal so showed up without a reservation on a Friday night. They squeezed us in but seemed to want to hurry us through the meal. The food was very good. I had hearty vegetable soup, my wife and daughter enjoyed their endives salad. We had a Chianti wine. My... More

I was here with my mom for dinner a few nights ago. We both had the lamb rack with quinoa salad (dish of the day) which was perfectly cooked (medium) and delicious! Portion sizes were very good. We finished our meal off by sharing the chocolate tartlet with caramel sauce, ice cream, and copped nuts (also dish of the day).... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
