Stopped here for our anniversary dinner because it featured live jazz. Nothing disappointed! The music was excellent, the atmosphere was both classy and relaxed, and the food was spectacular. Would come back here in a heartbeat! Thanks for a great experience!

My wife and I ate here the other day for lunch and had one of the best meals during our stay in Montreal. The Poutine topped with Braised Lamb was amazing, as was our Croque-monsieurs. Our waiter, Monosh, was friendly, attentive, and extremely professional. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone sightseeing in Old Montreal.

My husband and I and our friends love this restaurant. We loved it so much that we came two nights in a row during our 4 day visit to Montreal. The host Lorenzo welcomed us back and was very attentive. Our meals, particularly the mussels in Pernod sauce, were wonderful. They are known for their lamb and it lived up... More

Enjoyable bistro with jazz music nightly. Casual with a nice menu from mussels and frites to lamb burgers. Great wine list too!

We were welcomed by Lorenzo who treated us like old friends and royalty. I loved how he always checked on us from time to time and made sure our experience was top-notch! The music was incredible and the food was decadent. We would definitely come back to Modavie when we are in Montreal again.

Me and my SO were walking downtown and were looking for a steakhouse. Stumbled upon modavie and were immediately taken aback by the decore and the ambiance. Jazzy french cuisine is their motto. We were served by Joanie and she was amazing. Friendly, attentive, and ready to help when we needed something else. It was a great experience. Great wine... More

We were not too impressed with our food and the service at this restaurant. Our experience was not as great as our expectations based on the reviews. We had dinner on a busy Saturday evening in August. For all three courses we had to wait for a missing meal (starter), sides (main) or silverware (dessert). Food was ok but nothing... More

First to let you know their speciality is lamb, but there are many non-lamb choices on the menu. Make reservations and ask to be in the room with the music. Staff were very helpful and friendly. I had the wild mushroom risotto with duck confit aand my husband had the lamb chops. Both were excellent! Musicians were amazing. Great sound... More

Description
Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
