We wanted some good French food, we stopped at this restaurant. What a great place the food was outstanding we had mussels home brew beer and wine. The service was just as good as the food and drink. The putaine which is french fries with brown gravey and cheese curd was very good, it did not sound good but once... More

This is a cosy, relaxed restaurant with a good menu and very fair prices. We had cocktails at first. We had the poulet supreme, salmon and moules frites as entrées after two salads betteraves (that's beetroot) and Chevre and a Foie gras with Apple confit. The bill came to 150 CAD which I find reasonable. We enjoyed the food and... More

My husband and I enjoyed a really nice evening at Modavie in early September. The jazz entertainment was great. We enjoyed a nice bottle of Gamay, and one of the best cheese & charcuterie plates (duck so many ways). And the service was perfect Be sure to make a reservation!

We were told by many of the locals Modavie would not disappoint! They were right. The food, especially the lamb, was amazing. The atmosphere was comfortable and inviting. It was by far our favorite meal of the trip. What a great find. Lorenzo made us feel like family! We will definitely be back next time we visit Montreal!

Visited for the first time Sunday and was quickly greeted by the owner Lorenzo who took us to our table and said if there is anything I can do please just ask. The service was very good and the food outstanding. The best French Onion Soup I have ever had. Will be going back here for sure.

We walked in without reservations on a Sunday night, not knowing what to expect. We were seated immediately at a great window table so we could watch the parade of people walking by, in the same room as the live music. The music was great, the food was fantastic, and the service was friendly. It was a perfect evening!

We did not have a reservation but the staff quickly found a way to seat us. Thank heavens because it was one of the best meals we have ever had and we have had quite a few!

We were traveling with a group of friends and ate here upon our arrival. We liked it so well we returned the next day . Lorenzo and Sylvain made us feel at home and the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Our food was delicious and the attention we received will long be remembered.

Great place to relax. Live music but not so loud that you couldn't talk. Xavier was our server (his first night) and did a terrific job.

We dined here on the advice of our hotel and had a wonderful meal. As others have said, the music is just the right volume - so it is possible to have a conversation. The food was fantastic. I had their signature rack of lamb - one of the best I've ever had. My wife had a sea bass that... More

Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
