Enjoyed the french onion soup. However we ordered steak fritters and my steak tasted like the flame of a fire. My husbands was okay and my friends was thick and tough and he couldn't finish it! It looks like they specialize in rack of lamb since i saw many people ordering it. They have music every night which is nice.

Excellent staff. Ask for Lorenzo. Tell him Michael says hello. Great food. The lamb chops, onion soup and beet salad. Great wine selection. Cheese plate is excellent with cheese from Quebec. Get a table on the second floor by the window. Make a reservation.

My husband and I popped in here for a glass of wine and food. The salad is a meal... delicious... good portion. Would go back to have it there again.

I was in town on business and decided to pop into Modavie one night while walking around Old Montreal. First good sign is that there were locals eating there unlike some of the other places in Old Montreal that are just tourists. Food was delicious in a great atmosphere. Sonia was a delight while making me feel welcome.

Quiet jazz, a terrific menu, friendly staff and some of the best steak tartar in the city - what more could one ask for? We returned for a second dinner (which I rarely do on vacation) since the first experience was so exceptional. It is moderately priced - well worth the money. A definite recommendation - but do make a... More

We had a wonderful dinner here. While the food was just short of very good, the service was incredible. Our server, Kim, was attentive without being overbearing. She was very friendly and made a great wine recommendation. The rack of lamb is terrific.

We came here for dinner on a Saturday night before the crowds showed up. The live jazz music was great, and the restaurant itself has a beautiful decor. Decent selection of bistro food, can get a bit noisy at times. Good choice if you are in the Vieux Port area

Good food. The best things were the beat salad and the chicken entree (supreme Poulet. Service provided by Sylvain was excellent. Very attentive, polite, and professional.

Brasserie environment with tourist crowd. Downstairs was noisy but food was good. Nice place to stop at one end of Rue Saint Paul.

Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
