Fantastic setting in Old Montreal, greeted by Lorenzo, Modavie's Maitre D, you will find courteous staff, great food, and the best local musical blues and jazz talents... Beautiful decor, warm ambiance!

I Was there for my anniversary with my girlfriend. The decor and mood was beautiful, food was amazing, and the staff were wonderful. This place met my expectations and more. If I could give this place a higher rating I would! Great job keep it up!

Loved it. We were looking for something that was fun (not overly sophisticated, elegant or quiet) yet romantic and Modavie ended up being perfect for us. We were greeted by Lorenzo and he sat us at the most perfect table near the wiindow. We really enjoyed the live band - wish they would have played longer than 10:30PM. Food was... More

We stopped at Modavie around noon on a Saturday and the place was packed , we figured the food was going to be good because of the crowd. A bit on the more expensive side for a quick bite but they served delicious food and offered friendly service. The beef tartare was excellent and so was the onion soup! Poutine... More

We have been to Modavie four times and every time the food, service and ambience are excellent. The last time we went Lorenzo took great care of us. Even though we didn't have a reservation he gave us a great table and came back to make sure we were having a nice experience.

Wonderful ambiance, friendly attentive staff made our lunch an exceptional experience. Our meal was of top quality. A special touch from Lorenzo topped off my companions birthday, making our whole visit one we will not soon forget.

Just came back from dinner at Modavie...Feb 24, 2017...beef tartar was excellent, desert was excellent, the Spanish coffee was excellent. The steak and lamb were...let's say I had better. The server was professional throughout except...well...when the time to pay came. So we got the bill...all was good...I added 10% tip and paid. Well...I was very surprised the waiter gave a... More

This place is one of the best restaurants I have ever eaten at in my life. The atmosphere in there is so wonderful with live music being played upstairs and downstairs. The live Jazz music downstairs set the mood for the entire evening. The manager Lorenzo went above and beyond to ensure that we had a great dining experience. He... More

We ate lunch in a warm, sunny winter's day. This is a good if a place on Rue St. Paul, just a few blocks from Place Jacques Cartier. It is a charming and comfortable bistro, with a varied menu. The Niçoise salad with seared tuna was superb! Service was very friendly, helpful and efficient.....in both French or English. There is... More

Seven nights a week, local bands take the stage at Montreal's hottest Jazz bar and bistro. Modavie's spirited setting sets the scene for a night of great tunes, top dining and generous pastis toasting. The bistro's far-reaching wine menu hits just the right notes and helps round off succulent lamb, fish, beef and inspired pasta dishes.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
