We were very pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. It is a bit more expensive than most Indian restaurants, but it is much better than most in many ways: the decor is beautiful, the service was efficient, friendly and very professional, the wine selection was excellent, and the menu is diversified. Sharing plates is truly the best way to fully enjoy... More

I was looking forward to returning to Le Taj, a high end indian restaurant located in downtown Montreal. I was so disappointed. The grourmet club I belong to visited Le Taj two days ago and both the service and food quality was indeed lacking. The group of 12 persons were all seated by 7:10, the orders taken by 8 pm,... If I could give this fine restaurants all the stars in the galaxy, I definitely would. Exquisite establishment, delicious flavorful food, kind service. Went there for the third time and we were there for our 10th anniversary this time around. Was just as amazing !

Up front, I don't like Indian food. It's often messy and overpowering flavours in unpalatable locations (full disclosure I'm of Indian ancestry so I still know my way around good, authentic Indian food). Le TAJ however was a totally contemporary experience and was a delight for a big group. They have a $40 prix-fix with a huge amount of choice.... More

The lunch buffet at Taj is a popular option for downtown Montreal. We stopped in after our first, smaller choice was lined up out the door with people waiting. A few particularly nice things about buffet lunch at Taj: it's big, so you're likely to get a table quickly; the food is good, plentiful and beautifully presented; the service is... More

I have visited Le Taj on two separate visits to Montreal. The first visit was during their lunch buffet. It was delicious. The most recent visit we came for dinner. Everything we ordered was absolutely excellent.

We went there for my birthday. The meal was excellent, and the service was perfect. Be sure to get there early or make reservations. They make a variety of Naan right there , and they are delicious. Carla just happened to mention in a completely offhand way that it was my birthday. Weren't wew surprised when 4 waiters came out... More

My taste buds are still dreaming of the excellent Indian dish I had for dinner tonight. For starters the Onion Bhaji was a bit disappointing, the taste was there but the onions a lost in the batter. Followed a pappadum with its wonderful sauces. You like it hot? Two of them are hot! And then...one of the most amazing Indian... More

Have dined at Le Taj numerous times. Wonderful service, excellent atmosphere, fantastic menu selections. Was terrific to see our friend Mr Fayzul, a most excellent waiter, and owner, Mr Vino, so gracious and welcoming. The variety of wonderful flavors, textures, all so well prepared. For those new to Indian cuisine, or aficionados. Mr Fayzul or others will gladly recommend dishes.... More

This restaurant was one block from our hotel and I'm glad it was because the food was so good. The prices are a little high and everything is a la carte in the evening but it's great.  My wife and I bought tandoori chicken, curry chicken, and 2 orders of rice.  We could have split the rice because it's a... Staying in Centre-Ville (Downtown)

Neighborhood Profile
Centre-Ville (Downtown)
Montreal's towering skyline is concentrated in the Downtown area, its nexus of commerce and commercialism. A suffusion of luxury hotels, flagship stores, high-end restaurants, and corporate headquarters characterize the neighborhood, which by nightfall transforms from a business district into a youth-culture hotspot, with hip bars, clubs, and restaurants heavily peopled by students and young professionals. The once-seat of millionaire's 'Golden Square Mile', an incongruity of stately mansions and dapper brownstones sit between glass skyscrapers, creating a visually lush urban landscape. Beneath the sidewalks lay the Underground City, the world's largest below-ground mall, a labyrinth of over 1,500 shops and eateries that echo the profusion of cafes, gallerias, cinemas, and fashion outlets above. From the scholarly array at McGill University to the carousing crowds of Rue Crescent, visit Downtown to shop by day for what you'll wear there by night.
