Went to this little gem after a night at the theater and had the bone marrow with sea salt. This the most glorious dish ever, super rich and sinful. Then had the warm goat cheese salad wish was also great. For the finish had the creme brulee wonderful. Would highly recommend. wish I could go here regularly. Ps went late... More

L'Express may be a Montreal classic but every time I go, the staff perform their magic at top level, as if it's their most important evening. The food and wine delight as well.

One of the best places in Montreal for high quality, fresh, and tasty Tartare. It's my second time coming here for this dish. Everything else on the menu is also quality.

Water wonderful surprise to find this true French bistro. I was back in France on the left bank at my favorite bistro. The service and food are just a delight. I had the fish soup with perfectly prepared kidneys in a mustard sauce and my wife perfectly prepared Casimir. The bread and butter were wonderful with a delightful breadline made... More

With a dessert/cheese/wine/french food selection to die for, it's easy to see why there's always a lineup outside. Easily my favourite place for a drink, or five.

This is a must visit bistro on the Rue St-Denis in Montréal. The room itself has that flair and vibe that is rarely found in North America, although there have been attempts. This place is the real deal. The service was friendly and highly professional. Reservations are an absolute necessity. Now, the food. My dining partner and I started off... More

Service was inattentive (at best), we did not receive part of the meal, and the entree was served cold - and no it, wasn't supposed to be cold. Not to be overlooked is the fact that the food was nothing special at all. This should say it all - we would have been better off eating at the Canadiens game.

We loved L'Express for the sheer ambiance, a really authentic bistro in Montreal. Crowded, loud (not too loud) and perfect décor. For appetizers we enjoyed the pate (about the best we have ever had) and celery remoulade which was fantastic, but you have to love celery for sure. For our mains we had hangar steak and Pot au Feu and... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
