My son lived on San Denis (not far from Duluth) while attending McGill. We hail from Western New York and our first stop (for food) when we arrive in Montreal is Khyber Pass. Have been eating here for years!!

The authentic Afghan decor and atmosphere of this place draws you in. The music, pictures on the walls, tapestries tell of a rich culture with colour and beauty that sadly, no longer exists in today's Afghanistan. The front, the interior and the overall atmosphere is so nostalgic. The food, however, is amazing especially the lamb. The meat is prfectly cooked... More

The Khyber Pass is well known among locals for the excellent food and great service. I went twice in the two weeks I visited because the food is just superb and the people are so welcoming!

We ended up here only because while walking back to our hotel we saw the facade (which is wonderful) and smelled the aromas. We peaked in and immediately got a reservation. We have never had Afghan food but this was wonderful. The lame shank is prepared 3 different ways and they could not be more different. Very unique spice combinations... More

My wife and I did not expect Khyber pass to be our favorite dinner we ate in Montreal, but it was. We stumbled upon it one night looking for any other restaurant, but the previous night we had seen Khyber Pass packed and decided that we were hungry and did not want to look any further. This fate encounter lead... More

This was my first time at this restaurant and I wasn't feeling confident at all. We entered the restaurant but were then directed next door. It seems they have two restaurants with two separate dining rooms. The restaurant was beautifully decorated and had a really warm atmosphere. The menu was a bit confusing but after speaking with my waitress she... More

A great, bring-your-own wine Venue, different from the Array of Greek Restaurants on that street. The food is truly original and it is a Discovery for your Palate. It is like Indian Food , up in them Mountains...I can feel the Vibration of the Heights of Afghanistan ..their lamb dishes are great..they also have beef, chicken and goat..it's halal..so if... We were there a couple of times and were never disapppointed . We always take the set menu (Table d'hote) . The lentils soup is to die for, the lamb shank with rice is divine : tender, tasty. We always bring our own wine, which is a plus (and no corkage fee !) . And the waiters are so friendly... More

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
