Not being from Montreal I would never have found this gem if it wasn't for my cousin, . Ben. The room is crowded and loud, a good sign for a Greek restaurant. Ben ordered the appetizers. The calamari, salads, fried zucchini, breads with olive oil, etc. were all huge family-sized portions. We were 9 at the table including 3 teenagers!... More

We hadn't visited Marven's in a long time and since we were going to watch the women's tennis, this was our opportunity. We arrived on a Friday at about 5:15 and they were already busy. I must warn you that the restaurant is very small and they do not take reservations. We were quickly seated at a large table and... More

Located in a transformed house, this place is great for big family, friends or couples. Big tables are shared but food is good. You need to try the calamari it's excellent and lightly fried. The portions are really big, so you will most probably share and bring the leftovers. The salad is good but a bit too oily for me.... More

This little restaurant has been around since 1973 and anyone that went to Barclay's school as a student knows that place, for the food his excellent. The decoration isn't up to date and fancy but it's clean. The service at our table was courteous and professional. I ate the spanakopita ant the greek chicken with the greek salad /fries and... Be sure to be non-vegetarian to enjoy the crispy, succulent meat grills especially the lamb chops, chicken, etc. Washrooms in the basement therefore not wheelchair accessible. Relatively easy parking on the street. Salad, rice, and accompaniments are ordinary. Vintage decor open since 1970s. Feels like the beer taverns of yesteryear which are now increasingly rare. Remember cash only.

If you are real hungry and are not in the mood to wait, then do not come here. And they always run out of the gyro. Really? But if you time it right (arrive early) and do not mind sharing a table, then this place is for you. The portions are generous. The food is served fairly quickly and it... More

Might be my favorite restaurant in Mtl! The food is absolutely OUTSTANDING! As a recommendation : You have to take the calamari plate. Marven's cook the most tasteful calamari in town! We usually go for the souvlakis because its a good portion and the price is right! But everything should be worth a try. Also don't forget to try their... More

It's been a neighbourhood installation for decades, with only minor changes to the decor. The food is tasty and served fast and hot (if you stay on the menu). I noticed a full range of customers at lunch time which is always a good sign, from newborns to grandfathers. Everyone is welcome and the service is very friendly. Tables from... More

Marven's grills are the best Greek food I have ever tasted yet! Their lamb chops were the best lamb in Montreal. My family and I always go there for the sole purpose of eating that delicious lamb meat. Tender and tasty, it doesn't even have the stinky odor that some lamb meats tend to smell. The sirloin steak was ok,... More

Staying in Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension

Neighborhood Profile
Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension
The most ethnically diverse of all of Montreal's neighborhoods, Villeray-Saint-Michel-Parc-Extension (or, Parc-Ex) stands at the city's center, a hub for rail and metro traffic. Starting at the old station where the Canadian Pacific used to disembark, the brick-and-mortar surroundings of Parc-Ex have a homey feel, with leafy lawns and bicycle lanes seamlessly incorporated into the landscape. With prominent Greek and Spanish communities, Greektown includes the tastiest stops for brochettes and shawarma, and local bars entertain an excitable soccer fanbase. Jerry Park and Stade Uniprix stand ready for sports diehards to enjoy a game, while the the Complexe Environnemental Saint-Michel and Le Taz skate parks invite athletes to train and compete. Though built for the active and best by day, Cirque du Soleil, the TOHU center for arts, and the Le Boulevard shopping center offer diversions for those who wish to stay late.
