This the worst so-called "Thai" restaurant we ever went to! The food was very greasy and looked like the cheapest fast-food decorated with basil leaves and other herbs to make it "home made" and re-heated in a microwave. The bill was staggering considering the pitiful fare: $50 per person (and we mostly had appetizers; not main dishes)! We should have... More

This was our first meal when we arrived in Montreal, and it really warmed us up from January's winter chill. Don't come here expecting cheap eats, though. It's one of the nicer Thai places I've been to, and a favorite of our local friends. We had a large party, which the staff were able to accommodate in the mezzanine level... More

I have alway said that a restaurant is only as good as its staff and the people that own it and run it every day. My group and I (five guys between the ages of 28 and 35) happened to randomly meet the owner, MR. Daljit Kohli, on a Saturday afternoon while we having a few pints at local pub... More

Had dinner with work colleagues at Chao Phraya. The food was excellent, hot and spicy on a cold winter evening. The staff was able to point me to which dishes would meet my dietary restrictions for which I was thankful. Would definitely dine here again when in the area.

As usual the food was excellent. Chao Phraya never fails to deliver. The soups are delicious, the dumplings well prepared and the peanut sauce delightful. I loved the Thai chicken wings.....different but terrific. Try the Pad Thai for sure don's miss the egg plant.

We celebrated new years eve dinner at this great Thai restaurant. I ate Thai for the first time here and have never stopped loving the food. Although I no longer live in Montreal, I continue to make a pilgrimage to chao praya for the best Thai food - especially those crab claws! Thank you for continuing to be so good.

Chao Phraya was a nice neighborhood find. We just stumbled upon it and were glad we did. The space has a upscale feel--good for a special evening out. The food was delicious. I had a vegetarian dish with the right amount of spice for me (moderate). My daughter enjoyed the pad Thai. The food is traditional and you get what... More

Definitely a touch of class. The service, the decor, the food and the wine list can only upgrade this restaurant. Everything is presented with class. Very clean. The menu is appealing and the taste is succulent. Refined cuisine. Prices are very good; variety of soups, noodles, rice, sea food, poultry, red meat, vegetarian dishes, desserts....A good selection of wine. Very... More

The Chao Phraya is located on the trendy and chic rue Laurier Ouest (Ouest of Blvd. St Laurent) in Montreal close to Outremont. The food is super albeit pricy, the staff is friendly, bilingual (French/English) and acquillante. It is a bit away from downtown Montreal ... 20 minute cab ride.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighborhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colorful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
