Start your day touring the Basillica and then walk one block away from the crowds down rue Notre Dame to this small coffee shop. The coffee was the best I had in Montreal and the pastries were also very nice. They also serviced sandwiches. Note: the cafe is VERY small and I did not see a restroom.

Cappuccinos and lattes done to perfection. Friendly, relaxing. We love local cafes and Espace is in the top 5 if not the best.

A small little cafe in a great location! The staff, especially the owner were very welcoming and kind. The food is delicious and very good value for money. The coffee is really nice too, especially the Mocha! Our son got a little treat too from the owner. Go here you won't be disappointed.

Great sandwiches and friendly service. Right down the street from the church. Took my young family after visiting Notre Dame Basilica. Would return if we came back to Montreal.

We discovered this fabulous place for breakfast and returned over and over. They do serve lunch but we only had the delicious egg, ham or bacon, cheese sandwich on a bagel. Superb coffee. Equidistant was a Starbucks. So glad we found this instead. We are not interested in a big breakfast - good food, good price, no waiting - and... More

Located a few steps away from the Notre-Dame Basilica this small cozy coffee shop served us the best coffee we've had on our trip, so far. Bravo! Service was polite and friendly and there was lots of locals eating lunch and hanging out (always a great sign). They speak fluent English here so don't be afraid to ask for what... More

We went to the cafe right after we visited the Cathedral of Notre Dame. They were really friendly and they had great sandwiches and Paninis. Great prices and they also had muffins and croissants.

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighborhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic center of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its center, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theater.
